Clary Sage and VBAC?

Hello,

Well, I'm hoping to VBAC following an emcs with my first dd 3 years ago. (failed induction, no labour, 12 days overdue, emcs)

I was hoping mumsnetters might know if I am taking a risk by having a few drops of clary sage in my bath in the hope of 'getting things started'. Is this dangerous for me?

I haven't used the clary yet as I'm not sure how many drops to put in, and have just been told that it may cause labour to come on strong and hard, which in my case could be a bit dangerous?

I know this dc will only come out when it's ready, but mentally, trying some old wives tales seems to be soothing.

Any advice would be great...

I had a VBAC 8 months ago and when I visited the hospital during my pregnancy the specialist VBAC midwife told me NOT to use clary sage at all because of the strong labour risks .

I don't really know the ins and outs of how or why but I took her word for it - she was very experienced .

So , I wouldn't if I were you - if you don't want to risk your VBAC.

Are you overdue yet ?
My DD1 was 10 days late , but DD2 only 3 days over .
Think that labour was kick started by DH doing his back in that morning !

Hi

Am in same position : first baby 2.7 years ago overdue by 18 dyas fialed induction and c-s.
I am 1 day overdue with 2nd baby hoping desperately for VBAC but with c-s date for next Friday.

Do you have a c-s date or plan for what happens next ?

hiya,

Due today, went to see midwife for a sweep yesterday - head still palpable so they obviously wouldn't risk it.

Back again Tuesday, where they'll see if the baby has moved - I guess try and do another sweep. All I know is they wont let me go past the 29th...

I so desperately want this VBAC, so wont do anything to hinder it. I didn't realise how much until the mw told me the head still hadn't engaged. Now I'm sort of resigned to the fact it'll be another cs.

Know exactly how you feel. Also not engaged. Odd twinges here and there but trying not to get my hopes up. Very difficult time.7

Hi there, not experienced a VBAC, but have a keen interest in the "alternative" stuff! I definately wouldn't take anything that causes your body to go faster than it wants to in your situation.

I took the homeopathis remedy Caullophylum for my fist labour, I dilated in 3 hours 50 and having a posterior baby this wasn't great for me, ended in forceps as he didn't get time to turn. (this may of happened anyway of course, but to be careful I wouldn't do it again)

The one thing I would recommend is arnica throughout labour, to keep your tissues from swelling too much. Helps a smoother passage for the baby, but might also help your scar area?

Good luck

WobblyPig every twinge I get I think 'this is it'!! It's all about my rite of passage. Nightmare!! The thing is, this baby feels so much lower than I ever did with my first - I was sure I was engaged at least... nope. Shows how much I know...

Here's hoping we both have successful VBACS!

Thanks Lotster anything to help.

Lotster. Is caullophylum one of the cohosh lot?

I am stuffing my face full of pineapple ; raspberry leaf tea. All the MW suggests is sex which is about as far from my mind as you could imagine.

Floozie - I also thought this one was lower and started crying!! when the MW said she wasn't engaged.

Lotster · 17/05/2009 23:58

Ello again. Yes, it's Black Cohosh.

Think you'd take the roof of your mouth off with the amount of pineapple needed to make a difference!

Apparently sex is about the only helpful method...
