Lochia restarting - is that a bad sign?

Hi, my post birth bleeding stopped after about 8 days which was a lot earlier than after my first child (both were sections). But I rested more this time and took it as a good sign.

By the end of the second week I had got quite stressed. On day 14 I was out in both morning and afternoon and by the evening my bleeding restarted quite a lot and suddenly. It has been off and on for 5 days now. I felt ill as if i was starting both a cold and urine infection at the weekend and although neither have developed I haven't felt great last 3 days. Some abdominal pain, but nothing dramatic. Saw the doctor and he wants an ultrasound. Has anyone else had bleeding stopping and starting - is this normal and is he maybe just being cautious?

Mine did stop and then start again, when I started doing too much physically. I didn't feel unwell though. I suppose it's possible there could be an infection - is the bleeding like it was before, or does it smell? I think it's a good idea to get it checked out.
