If one DC was a little early, when did the next one turn up?

And by a 'little early' I mean up to a couple of weeks maximum, not involving any health issues or multiples.

DD was 6 days early, and I'm trying to plan a 'window' for my Mum to come and stay during which I hope DC2 will arrive, which obviously is far from an exact science! So just doing a straw poll...

Ds - 4 weeks early
Dd - 2 days late

The rule of thumb for 'officially' prem babies (ie under 37 weeks) is that a prem baby increases your risk of a second prem baby by 10% - ie not a huge increase. Suspect the stats would get much much more random if you're talking a week early.

If you're trying to project down to the last day, I wish you the best of British

Mij - if you only have one so far its a bit hard to guess, but in my family, my sister and I were both born more than a week early, my sister's two daughters have been born more than a week early, and my DD was two weeks early. Maybe check the female family members to see if its a pattern?

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 13/05/2009 12:29

DD came at 38+1
DS came at 37

I knew in the full week leading up to ds's birth that by the weekend he would be out. No idea how just felt a bit different and my mum who thinks she is mystic meg on the side was adamant he would be born on the saturday and he was.

LilianGish · 13/05/2009 12:35

Dd three weeks early, ds two weeks late!

Mij · 13/05/2009 12:43

Thanks for responses so far.

DP and I are only children and our parents have no sisters so not much to go on, except that both DP and I were born a couple of days early or on DD, depending on whose dates you were going on.

No, not trying to be day-specific but family all live 100s of miles away so can't just jump on a train at the drop of a hat and be fairly sure of getting here on time. Local friends can help with some stuff but not that reliably. So just guessing 'earlier', 'as early', 'later' than DD will help!

ds spontaneous at 39+2

dd spontaneous at 41+1

which SO doesn't help you!

neolara · 13/05/2009 14:31

dd - 37 + 3
ds - 37 + 0

NorkilyChallenged · 13/05/2009 14:37

DD1 - 4 days early
DD2 - 4 days late

There's no telling I'm afraid...

Ledodgy · 13/05/2009 14:39

DD 3 days early
Ds1 3 days early
Ds2 3 days early

I like to be consistent.

hedgiemum · 13/05/2009 14:49

DD1 38 weeks
DS1 35 weeks
DD2 35 weeks

DS2 currently still in utero at 28 weeks though as he's another big 'un, my consultant thinks prematurity is reasonably likely....

(They've never found a reason for the prematurity btw, and no other complications.)

orangina · 13/05/2009 14:56

DD 37+ weeks
DS on his EDD

MKG · 13/05/2009 14:58

Ds1-38 weeks (induced)
ds2 - 39 + 4
dd- 40 + 6 (alhtough she was the easiest birth of all three so it was worth the wait.)

musicposy · 13/05/2009 15:00

DD1 38 weeks 5 days
DD2 38 weeks 6 days

I was particularly annoyed about DD2 as they wouldn't as a policy let me have the TENS machine until 39 weeks. The protests that I had DD1 before 39 fell on deaf ears. They said I could collect it on the Monday when I reached 39 weeks. She was born that weekend, so I never got it. GRRRR! AND it made her an August birthday instead of a September and affected her academic life for ever. Whatever she applies for, they do it by school years and she is the youngest. Not that I'm bitter or anything...

I fully expect if I had 100 they would all be early.

cloveofhislife · 13/05/2009 17:22

dd 1 37 weeks
dd 2 37 weeks
dc 3 40 + 2!!!! arghhh. How much longer??

JackieNo · 13/05/2009 17:23

DD was 9 days early. DS was on his due date.

tvfriend · 13/05/2009 20:37

Interested in this thread...

DD 35+9
DS 34+4

Vaguely thinking of No.3 but don't want to keep having them earlier and earlier (no apparent reason why they are so keen to see the world...)

Mij · 18/05/2009 10:59

I put a call into the NCT pregnancy and birth line, cos I figured if anyone would know of research in that area an antenatal teacher would, and the lovely woman told me she didn't know of anything but would ask on the teacher's e-group and email me if anyone comes back with anything.
