vaginal infection after childbirth

It's now 20 days since I gave birth and have been to the doctors today and have been told that I have an infection and been given some anti biotics. Just a bit concerned as only had three small tears after labour and no stitches.

Are infections common after childbirth, the doctor was a bit abrupt and didnt really explain anything.

I spent my entire pregnancy worrying about the car crash that would be my ladybits after labour so am worrying myself sick at the moment

Thanks for any help x

They are somewhat common....did your doctor specify if it was a vaginal infection, such as a yeast infection, or perhaps from a vaginal injury? Could it be a water infection? Were you running a fever? Any abdominal pain? Pain or difficulty with urinating?

More than likely, since he wasn't very forthcoming with information, it is minor. Do be aware, however, if you are breastfeeding, you will want to watch for the possible development of thrush...more common when using an antibiotic.

you probably had it before childbirth - just didn't know

Thanks Ladies

Doulac - the only symptoms I had were a slightly itchy painful feeling down below, which reminded me a bit of thrush which is why I went to the doctors.

I have no pain when urinating no abdominal pain and no fever (apart from being boiling in bed at night which I think is the night sweats)
