41 week apointment TODAY - Kingston Hospital

Hi ladies...

Well, I have made it to 41 weeks pregnant! I am now very uncomfortable with baby seemingly taking up my entire insides!!

Anyway, has anyone had a midwife appointment at Kingston and what happens? Will they offer to do a sweep or will I have to ask outright?

Also does anyone know what the hospital's policy is on induction? How long will they recommend before doing anything else? (I know they cannot insist...but then I would also probably be too nervous to let pregnancy go beyond 40+12)

Had my DS at Kingston and saw Doctor at 41 weeks, at Queen Mary's. She did a sweep (can't remember who suggested it - but do ask) and also booked an induction a week ahead. Luckily sweep worked and delivered DS 4 hours after appointment. Good luck, hope it all goes well.

I think policy at Kingston is 10 days over, but it may depend on consultant. I would think they would do a sweep - I was offered one at term (although I was VBAC so might make a difference) but ended up having dd2 at 39+6.

Having been relatively chilled and buoyant about being 7 days overdue, I'm feeling very deflated post midwife.

Had an internal and only got 4 on Bishop's Score, and she wasn't able to do a sweep as cervix is posterior.

Feel quite depressed. Really want baby to come now and sudden;y sick of waiting and totally sick of people texting and calling (which I realise is completely unreasonable and they are just being nice!)

Induction scheduled for 40+12 is baby hasn't appeared and having read up on Bishop's Scoring, it seems this is most likely given my low score.

Just fed up.

Oh don't be depressed. Is your baby posterior? You could do lots of walking up and down stairs maybe (it's shocking dull though).

My experience of Kingston is a good one but it was ten years ago. I found them very relaxed and really quite non interventional ..they did all the things I asked like no monitoring despite Vbac, let me choose position and let me refuse to see the doctor. So they seemed very receptive to me.

Just wanted to say whatever happens you should get good treatment. Had my daughter there in feb and they were lovely to me, despite being rushed off their feet. One of my midwives was called Naz and she was great, really kind, hope you get her! It's rubbish to hear, but baby comes when baby wants... In my son's case at 9 days over when induction was looming close, there's still time. Good luck.

Have been quite tearful this afternoon (unusual for me) and just feeling low. Am hoping that it'll pass though and I'll be able to pick myself up again and carry on.

I know that baby being ok is the only thing that really counts, but I'm feeling frustrated and in a funny way a bit of a failure as lots of people had made plans around EDD (Silly I know).

I've been trying to think of what to say to cheer you up but it's hard because i've been there and I know it won't wash! Pls don't worry about others plans because it's out of your control. Is this your first babe? If so it's a great lesson in learning that your life isn't going to be controllable and predictable as before. Rather like the constant getting up to pee at night prepares you for broken sleep iyswim?! Every day is more weight to drag around too, so focus on not getting too sun down as you need all the strength and positivity you can muster in the early weeks. And really soon you'll be saying all this stuff to the next overdue preggy! X

Most of my DC's were overdue. The wait is tedious. I did a lot of baking and filled the tins/freezer. Plan something to do each day, while also getting some rest.

I was induced with DD and she was born at 42 weeks exactly.

With DS I went into labour on my own but he was still 11 days late.

Try not to worry - some babies just take longer to cook. I used to console myself that they were both comfortable in there! LOL

I am 38 weeeks on Monday and have been panicking that this one will be early! I have no plans in place if it is... Sort of relying on another late one...

BTW have you tried, fresh pineapple, hot curry or some sex???? No doubt everyone is suggesting them to you!

Ask what their policy is on sweeps - some places will ofer you several (if the first doesn't work), sadly my community midwife would only offer one. A bit TMI, but have sex after the sweep, it's supposed to help too! And walk around a lot.

When I went over (again) with my second pregnancy I set my facebook status to say someting like 'Twinkly is grateful that everyone is leaving her alone while she waits for the baby'. It worked a treat and no one phoned me /hassled me.

Hi, I am 8 days overdue and like you am getting nervous about the prospect of an induction.

However - I spent an hour yesterday with a girl from my NCT group who was induced and said it was great - she had a very positive experience and she has made me feel a whole lot better about it

Good luck - I know how frustrating it is waiting (went to 42 weeks last time before being induced and am expecting to have to hang around again this time, 36 weeks at the moment). BUT, you really honestly are NOT 'overdue' until you are 42+1! Normal term is 37-42 (some think 43) weeks, and EDDs are just a very unhelpful average - pretty meaningless actually as only 3% of babies actually arrive on their EDD. So try to chill out and enjoy the baby free peace and quiet until then, its only a few more days.... (hours, minutes, seconds ) .... and you are more than likely to go into labour before 42/43 weeks if you give yourself a chance.
