Greenish tinge to show/waters - ADVICE PLEASE!

My waters went in the early hours and my padhas a greenish tinge to it. Does this mean baby is distressed and should I head into labour ward for monitoring? Contractions are sporadic but there now. Thanks for any responses!

phone the midwife. NOW.

rubyslippers · 22/04/2009 08:03

yes - you need to speak to the labour ward ASAP

pottycock · 22/04/2009 08:03

I've only had one baby but my waters were greeny, a bit smelly and had bits in them (nice). DDwas overdue and it was meconium. I'd ring the hospital and ask. Good luck!!

norktasticninja · 22/04/2009 08:05

Yup, definitely ring the maternity ward NOW. It sounds like you'll be meeting your baby very soon

Here's to a good labour!

juuule · 22/04/2009 08:06

I'd get it checked out.
Happened to me. I had heard that it could be the baby in distress so went to get checked out. Everything was fine but I was told that it was the best thing to do to make sure. I stayed in and my baby was born a few hours later so maybe yours will be too.
Good luck

OK now in labour ward. Had sweep and being assessed in an hour and threatened with the dreaded "s" word. Any advice? Am only 1-2 cm apparently...

Hi Hope you're okay. With DS2 my waters went at 8.30 am and he had had a massive poo in them!! Was only dilated to 2 cm and didn't start getting contractions for 4 hours. In the end they put me on a drip and then things sped up and everything was fine. Good Luck!

MoshiMoshi · 22/04/2009 12:01

sn3 - did you manage to avoid pain relief as I want to avoid it if possible.

I had Pethidine towards the end as the MW said it would be hours as I was only slightly dilated. Next thing I knew I was 10 cm and pushing so if I'd known it would have been that quick I wouldn't have had it!

MoshiMoshi · 22/04/2009 12:07

ps congrats btw sn3!

Good luck! Sounds like it won't be long. . Even if you have to have the dreaded "S", it'll be because it is best for you and the baby. The drip is supposed to make the contractions more intense, and I personally did need the G&A.

surprisenumber3 · 22/04/2009 12:13

thanks Moshi, that was 5 years ago now, lol. I am currently 41 weeks with DC3 so we will see how things go this time!

Just go with the flow and you'll be fine Can't wait to hear you've had your baby

MoshiMoshi · 22/04/2009 12:20

about to be hooked up

hedgiemum · 22/04/2009 12:25

I've had a lovely Synt induction with DC3 - don't panic, relax, every contraction brings you closer to meeting your baby, go floppy all over and enjoy the g&a!

surprisenumber3 · 22/04/2009 12:34

it'll be fine....excited for you! And envious, I'm so sick of waiting for mine to make an appearance!

Auntylulu · 22/04/2009 12:40

use a birth ball , avoid lying on your back and happy birthing !!

MiniMarmite · 22/04/2009 13:39

Good luck MoshiMoshi,
I was induced with DS1 (not what I had hoped for either). I had G&A which I enjoyed

MmeLindt · 22/04/2009 13:43

I was induced with both pregnancies.

Insist that they do not rush you. My first birth was great as they gradually increased the meds then gave an epidural so that I could get used to the contractions slowly.

When my waters broke, during the last phase, they were green so they whisked DD away to check up. She was fine but a bit green about the gills from drinking the green waters.

Good luck.

MoshiMoshi · 22/04/2009 23:52

after 3 hours on the drip I have my lovely daughter! Managed without drugs until transition when I had some entonox. The biggest of all mine at 7.5lbs so took two lots of contractions to get her out! Cord hooked around neck three times but pink and fine. Feeding well too! Only arse is having to stay in for 24 blooming hours due to the meconiumin waters business...

Thank you so much for all your tips! Were invaluable in getting me the drug-free labour I was after, even with the evil S...
