I am 40 weeks on Friday and wondered what happens at the last appointment with my GP (which is Thurs). Do they just do the usual cursory measurement and heartbeat check...or will they look at anything else? Would they do an internal exam for example to check cervix? I'm quite keen to know if I'm likely to go very overdue...

And failing anything happening...I have an appointment with the midwife at Kingston Hospital at 41 weeks. Do they automatically do a sweep? Would I have to request one? When would they start talking about induction?

Any advice appreciated...

Thanks!

Hi,

I went overdue by 2 weeks with DD, at my 40 week check they just did a normal BP check and had a measure and listen as normal, we talked about what would happen in labour and if i went over then i just kept in touch with them by phone if anything changed. I think you see MW or GP every week then so next one next Friday i guess for you.

We talked about a sweep once i was 41 weeks and had it at 41+2 then waters broke at 41+5.

MW didn't do an internal until i asked for one as no need if no labour pains, but she did say she could have a feel to see how engaged i was, but they can tell from the outside too.

Generally they tend to leave you until you ge any symptoms here and it looks like labour is starting, normally 12 days is the deadline before induction is talked about and what will happen at that etc.

Good luck!!!

Thanks Heebychick!

Coincidentally, my extended family are going to be in the Uk the weekend after my due date - they live overseas - and I'd really love for them to meet baby whilst here...realise baby may have other ideas, but I'm secretly hoping that baby will either be born around due date (24th) or in the following week...
