I'm 38 weeks pg and have been constantly told im having "big baby" its scrawled all over my notes

this is my third and my other 2 dds where 9lbs13 and 8lbs13 so im used to big

but they have been sending me for growth scans and i had one today which says the baby is 9lbs10 today with 2 weeks to go!!

im worried sick as i had really bad tear and infection with my 9lbs13 dd but even when i was expecting her they never went on about her size in this way. They have predicted she will be 10 and a half pounds plus!

I spoke to the consultant and they are booking me in to be induced next wed if i dont go before (they swept my membranes on mon but obv still nothing)

has anyone had any experience with this? what did your baby weigh compared to the scan measurement?

i dont know if im posting in the right thread so i may post in preg thread as well thanks x

I didn't have a growth scan with dd1 but they said she was big and was 9lb 12.
With dd2 they queried whether I had GD with dd1 and did a scan at 34wks and estimated she was 8lb then plus or minus 1lb LOL. She was 10lb. Both were CS but not because of size, but because off the added problem of them being back to back presentations iyswim.

You need to look into the the success rates of prediction of your hospital. It seems to depend a lot on how good the ultrasound specialist is and how advanced his equipment is.

Ours is very good. He was spot on with DD (said 4 kgs, she was born 4 kg 10 gr) and all my friends who have given birth in the same hospital were given very correct birth weigh estimations as well.

PinkBump I only tore with my first - a piddly 7lb6oz the bext 3 were all Big babies 9lb10 to 10lb6oz and they were much much much easier deliveries and no labial grazing or stitches etc. Try and stay calm and be positive. I'm sure if I had been told that my second was going to be huge I would have panicked and struggled to cope but ignorace was bliss - although none of the clothes I had at the hospital fitted her!

I had this with ds2 - ds1 was 9lb 9oz and apparently DS2 was "substantially bigger" - I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and was told to expect at least a 10 1/2lb baby if not an 11 lber - cue lots fo stress etsc - I was in flase labour for a week and am sure the amount fo prodding, sweeps etc they did because of this monster baby had something to do with it - out pops 8lb 15 oz ds2 in one push! Not ecactly tiny but not off the scale either adn much smaller than ds1!
