I am 40+4 today and since 2 this morning have been having contractions on and off all day.
They are now coming every 5 or 6 minutes but not even lasting a minute, but they are so painful.

This is my first pregnancy, I have lost my plug but waters have not broken.

I phoned the hospital earlier who told me to wait till they are 2-3 minutes apart and lasting 2-3 minutes.

My partner is out and I am flapping a bit, am I nearly there?

Sorry for rambling

Didnt want you to go unanswered.
Where is your dp? Will he be home soon. If they are getting quite painful it might be worth ringing them back.

Doozle · 02/04/2009 20:16

If you cannot stand the pain, call them back and see what they say. I'd be wanting some gas and air if they were v painful.

gothicmama · 02/04/2009 20:17

have you contacted dp is he on his way

xJulesx · 02/04/2009 20:24

Thanks for answering
Partner has only gone around to collect something from friends, he will back soon.

They are painful but not lasting long, I just want this pregnancy to end and to meet my baby.

The hospital were adamant that the contractions had to be 2-3 minutes long and 2-3 minutes apart.

Aww good luck - not long now until you meet littlie. Have you tried a warm bath? I had a glass of red wine with my no2 to calm me down a bit. The first one you are so excited you kinda forget to try to conserve your energy. xxx

Hawkmoth · 02/04/2009 20:30

Well good luck with it. Try to keep moving, find a position that eases each one and don't forget to breathe. Tensing up won't help... seems obvious but you forget. I remember MW telling me not to hold my breath... I really was, with every one!

Hopefully not too long to go

Disenchanted3 · 02/04/2009 20:30

Right sing a song ... if when the contraction comes you can still sing through it then brave it out a bit more, if you cant and are grabbing onto things etc ... then call the midwife x

Trebuchet · 02/04/2009 20:30

My contractions never lasted more than 55 seconds even when nearly fully dilated, if you need help you need to be firm, or your dp needs to be firm on your behalf. The hospital doesn't necessarily know whats best for YOU personally. If you are afraid and not coping with the pain just get there and ask for help. Good luck, not long now xxxx

gothicmama · 02/04/2009 20:37

how are Jules hope you are singing , try walking around a bit as well. are they getting stronger

xJulesx · 02/04/2009 20:40

Thanks ladies
I am going to phone hospital now and see what they say.

Any news Jules? Here's hoping you're progressing nicely.

conkertree · 02/04/2009 21:45

my sil's contractions only ever got to being about 7 mins apart right up to full dilation so i always think being told you have to wait till they are 2-3 mins apart is not a great way of telling how far on you are - as others say i think its more to do with how you are coping with the pain.

if you are not coping and starting to panic - you maybe need some gas and air or other pain relief.

sleeplessinstretford · 02/04/2009 21:58

with dd 2 my contractions right up to the end were really short and not that bad in terms of pain so when i wandered into hosp they were quite calm-dd delivered 2 hours later-my pushing started about 5 minutes after an internal put me at 3cm and the midwife had gone off to find someone to give me gas and air as i wasn't in proper labour and they wanted to speed things up again-if they are taking your breath away and you can't sing/speak or if you want some reassurance just go in-it's their job to offer pain relief and reassurance to you-good luck. hope every hour flies by for you kidder

xJulesx · 02/04/2009 23:56
