Both have good reputation, have heard Teoh feels like production line as he is so popular/busy. Have no experience w either personally myself. Was looked after by Mr Miskry last time round, can highly recommend.

I am currently living in New York and am 2 months pregnant. I am moving to London August 1st. Has anyone has Lorin Lakasing or Karl Murphy as there consultant? What did you think? Also I have heard some back things about the Portland Hospital - which is better Portland or Lindo? Thanks so much.

Hi Tennis - would also have a look at the Queen Charlottes Sir Stanley Clayton ward as well (private part of the hospital) fantastic consultants there and the back up of a big NHS hospital should you need in an emergency for yourself or baby (always reassuring) Both Mr McCarthy and Mr Kumar are excellent.

I just found out this morning that Lindo Wing will be closed for refurbishment later this year/ early next - you should call them to check exact timing for when you are due. I had great experience at Portland with DS last year, and will be booked in again at the Portland for DC2. Delivery rooms at Portland are far better than at Lindo if you are going for natural birth, if you are having a CS doesn't matter really, and post-natal rooms also better at Portland. Standard of care supposed to be similarly good at both, Portland was excellent both during delivery and after birth.

Lindo Wing closed from Oct 2010 to Aug 2011

Thanks a lot PinkPeony. My only fear on Portland is the emergency care just in case something goes wrong. Was that a concern of yours?

bellasmama · 21/05/2010 09:55

The Portland does have full intensive care facilities for baby and mother. Lots of mumsnetters think for whatever reason there is no emergency back up at the Portland which is not true. Have a look at their website. I cant praise the care at the Portland enough, especially the special care unit where my son had to spend a few days due to "wet lung" as he arrived early.

pinkpeony · 21/05/2010 15:20

Agree with Bellasmama that can't praise the Portland and quality of care enough. It really helps if you book a tour of the Portland when you get here and the midwife explains all the emergency procedures to you. There is an NICU and SCBU onsite so your baby will be fine, and there is intensive care for the mums. The rates of mothers being transferred out for emergency care are extremely low. Also have many friends who delivered at the Portland both CS and VB and all very satisfied with the experience. Friends were also very happy with the Lindo, but when I visited I really preferred the Portland for a number of reasons, and now the Lindo is closing anyway.

Thank you girls - I really appreciate the feedback. It is very good to know that they do have intensive care for mums and babies. Lindo is closing so Portland maybe only option. I am taking a tour of Portland this weekend. Has anyone had any first hand experience with Lorin Lakasing who works with Karl Murphy. Thanks so much!
