When to book C-section for twins??

Hi everyone - can anyone share their experience /advice on this issue? I'm now 34+3 with twins and have to have a c-section due to previous surgery. My consultant has scheduled one for 38+3. This seems too late, especially for twin pregnancy and more likely to result in an emergency c-section. I'm very nervous as I also have a cervical stitch that has to be removed quickly should I go into labour. Is there really a huge difference in the welfare of my babies if I ask for a section at 37 weeks instead? Got quite tearful at the hospital today and felt intimidated. I know they may decide to come earlier anyway, but planning for 38+3 feels too late? What do you think?

My twins were born at 38wks by c-section as twin 1 had turned at about 33wks to become breach and they didn't want to risk a natural birth. So I guess they must have been happy to let me go this long too. I do remember being told if I did get any signs of going in to labour before then to hot foot it up to the hospital.

Can you talk to your own midwife about this maybe she can help you. I wouldn't have thought there was much difference to your babies health having them at 37 wks but then again if you can wait why not? Are you worried that you might go in to labour before your c-section date and not have the section in time?

Hi, I have just had twins 2 weeks ago. Had c-section at 38+1. Had the same concerns as you. But they advised me that at 38 weeks the lungs are better developed and was better for the babies. They did warn me though that if any signs of labour before to go straight in for emergency c section! Both mine were breech! Try not to worry... easier said then done I know.
All I can say is that as over whelmed as I found it the C section was fine and both my babies were healthy, which is all that matters! Will keep my fingers crossed for you, take care.

Thank you both. Scanned internet last night for more info and it seems 38 weeks is standard for planned c-sec with twins. FH - yes I'm worried about going into labour because of the cervical stitch - I can't dilate and am worried that my uterus might 'split' in some way. Its planned for the monday - maybe I could ask for the previous thursday? Would be 37+6 then (apparently not good idea to have it on a friday as fewer staff on over weekend?)

I would have thought if you were that worried about it they would let you come in on the previous Thursday, it's worth asking anyway. And as Nanjl said I had a very positive experience of my c-section and found the recovery no problem at all, not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.
