hello

After a few nights of what I thought was mild contractions and constant period type pains my waters broke on weds night...got told to go into hospital where it was confirmed and was subsequently told to go home and wait for labour to 'really' start.

Despite still having pretty constant back and period pains (that have kept me awake) I am now having LESS contraction type pains

Have been totally exhausted and am now anxious to get things going as really wanted to get a shot at the birth centre and know if I have to get induced later that that will be out of the question and am more likely to have intervention.

so after waffle...questions are

Do I have to go and be induced or can I negotiate a bit more time if they monitor baby and me?

and

Does anyone have any tips or experiences they could share that got labour kick started?

Sorry a long post and appreciate any advice

:-D

Thanks Minxpinx I appreciate you telling me that. WHen I go in tonight will ask for some extra time as long as baby not distressed and my temperature fine..

I'm sorry you had such a terrible time of it. Will make sure I don't let them push me into anything unnecessary.

msBump - my waters went at 34 weeks with my 2nd and 3rd DC. I had to stay in hospital, on IV antibiotics, and as soon as my temperature raised a bit needed to be induced. Having had a bit of a bad time with induction with DC 1, was keen to avoid. With DC 2 they told me at 35+0 that they would induce me next day as temp was raised a bit - I walked sideways up and down all 5 floors of the hospital and ate 2 fresh pineapples. A midwife told me I couldn't have sex but that giving DH a bj could help , but wasn't really in the mood...! I went into labour naturally that evening.

With DC3 Again my waters went at 34 weeks, this time they said they wanted to induce me as soon as I got to 35 weeks as the risks of infection outweighed that level of prematurity for the baby. Tried to get it going at 34+6 to no avail and was induced. Really fine induction and had baby totally naturally with just gas and air.

So try and keep upright and moving, but don't worry about the need for an induction if it arises. If you turn down an induction they will get you to stay in hospital, having your temp taken 6 hourly, and daily bloods, which is all very dull. Hopefully babybump will get moving soon!
