Lochia - bright red again at 12 days after the birth. Have I done the right thing calling my midwife, or am I just making a fuss?

I'm just a bit concerned.

I know 'overdoing it' can cause red bleeding, and with a 3 year old, a newborn and a husband who has tonsillitis, there hasn't been a lot of opportunity to slow down.

But I had a huge and scary shivering fit about a week ago (guess I should have told someone at the time), and my lochia fades to yellow overnight but then comes back bright red in the daytime.

I went to the loo just now and was dripping red blood. So I've called the midwife and she's coming round later.

But I hate, hate, hate making a fuss - is she going to tell me I have to stay in bed? How am I going to do that??

It's not unusual for this to happen tbh, red lochia comes and goes but you are certainly not making a fuss- a call to the MW is never an issue, if you want reassurance that is precisely what they're there for

Thanks Peachy, am not good at asking for help, never seem to be able to draw the line between making an unecessary fuss and ignoring really important stuff. Unless it's the kids, I can do it then...

Oh me too CK in RL- a week after ds4's HB I passed a alrge piece of membrance and had severe shakes and said nowt, with DS1 I was in hiospital and lost the use of an arm after a delivery with eclampsia and kept quiet [bush]

trust me, I am poor at it!

if it's any help, i had this too. I was quite shocked, even though it was my 3rd child!
I called the maternity unit as my midwifes phone was off. They said it was perfectly normal, and i had been overdoing it. So don't worry.
