My ds was 40+10 and was 9lb 13oz if that helps. Not huge, but not small either! Dd was born on her due date and was 9lb 3oz...

smerchant · 19/03/2009 13:20

Mine was 9 pounds on 40+2. but my friend had 7 pounds baby on 40+10. I think its different for different people.

helsbels4 · 19/03/2009 13:23

My ds was three days overdue and weighed 8lb2oz but then again, my dd was also three days over and only weighed 6lb 15oz. It just depends I think

mum2b09 · 19/03/2009 13:23

does the size of the mother have anyhting to do with the size of the baby?

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 19/03/2009 13:25

No size of mother doesn't
dc1 6lb 11
dc2 8lb 9
dc3 6lb 13

That also rubbishes theory that they get bigger with every pg

misscreosote · 19/03/2009 13:28

DD arrived via induction at 42 weeks and was a tiddly 6lb14. But then I suppose that might be why she wasn't budging.

Amiable · 19/03/2009 13:35

my friend was 15 days "late" (I'm always a bit dubious abot due dates and how accurate they are!) Her DD was 6lb 12oz, and after 4 weeks is now 7lb 8oz - my DD was 7lb 5oz at birth, a week "early"!

also, she had a mahoosive bump, so that clearly has no correlation to baby size.

Seeline · 19/03/2009 13:37

My DD was born at 41+5 and weighed 8lb so not huge!

MammyINeedAWee · 19/03/2009 13:44

My DD was 17 days late and a whopping 10lb 10oz and was wedged like a little cork!!! She had shoulder dystocia, and hurt like HELL when then pulled her out, even with an epidural.

Hence when DS was born a year ago I elected for a c section as he was showing no signs of being "ready" to come out on time...and was a "fair size" according to scans.

Tell the consultant if you're worried cos they thought I was being neurotic my baby would be big! And it turns out I was right

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 13:46

nope - my DS was 40+16 eventually when he decided to come out and weighed 7lb 3oz.
I reckon he just wasn't 'cooked' at 40 weeks - he didn't have the peely skin that overdue babies sometimes have.

LadyBee · 19/03/2009 13:47

mine was 9lb 3 at 10 days over...I'd be more 'worried' about the midwife's language - her 'sizeable' is reminiscent of the comments made by the MWs who saw me who said things like 'good-sized'. Depends if the mw is experienced though
Bigger babies are lovely, they are nice and robust to look at and hold

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 13:50

and as far as DS's due date was concerned, we were very concentratedly ttc so I know within a few days when he was conceived. So technically he was only a couple of days over 40weeks gestation. And that's only cos it took 2 days from the start of induction for him to arrive.

WowOoo · 19/03/2009 13:52

Ds cooked for almost 42 weeks and only 6lb 7.
Poor little thing didn't look robust at all. I was just few ounces heavier.

DH was teeny weeny and you should see him now

georgimama · 19/03/2009 13:54

No.

DS was 41 + 1 (or 40 + 8 if you prefer) and a very average 7lb 15 oz.

He definitely wasn't overcooked or peely - in fact he didn't have any toe nails! I don't think he was actually late at all - although I know my dates are accurate. He was born at 39 weeks and 2 days from the date of conception.

Also not convinced successive babies are bigger - my mum's first baby at 9lb something was her first.

angelene · 19/03/2009 14:08

DD was 40+15 and was just 7lb, I thought the dates might have been wrong at that weight but she did have the lovely smooth skin of an overdue baby.

lizziemun · 19/03/2009 14:18

DD1 was born exactly 39wk and was 9lb 4oz (saw midwife the day before and was told no more then 7 1/2lb )

DD2 was born at 41 + 2 and was 9lb 2oz (saw consultant the day before and was told no more 8lb ).

This time am 41 + 4 so am hoping it will only be 9lb (am seeing consultant later and will take whatever size he says with a pinch of salt ).

And btw i am only 5ft.

muppetgirl · 19/03/2009 14:21

ds 1 was born 41 + 4 and was 9lb 1oz
ds 2 was on due date and was 9lb 15 1/2

ds 3 (24 weeks prgt) -this one is measuring right for dates which hasn't happened before!

ellenjames · 19/03/2009 21:42

dd born 40+7 and was 8lb 14
ds born at 40+9 and was 10lb 3
am 39 weeks pregnant and will prob go similar with nxt one and am thinking maybe another 10lber!

merryberry · 20/03/2009 10:24

12 days late. 11lb 11oz. Def overcooked. Had fat on his fat. 19 days pre labour, think if was trying to get out but was 25cm long and got wedged there!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/03/2009 10:25

ds1 was 2 1/2 weeks overdue - 8lbs 12.5oz

ds2 was born on his due date - 7lbs 11.5 oz

merryberry · 20/03/2009 10:26

25 inches. Doh he was 2nd. 1st boy induced due date, 6lb 13oz much shorter

mistlethrush · 20/03/2009 10:51

Ds was a week early - 10lbs 5 oz, so was glad that he didn't stay any longer putting even more weight on! Mind you, he wasn't exactly fat - just large!

Ds was 41 +1 and only 6lb 11oz . 4 different midwives told me he was going to be huge so I only took in larger baby clothes to hospital and had to send dh home to find something small that would fit him. He was quite lengthy at 54cm so basically I don't think they can really tell how heavy the baby is going to be by feel- you might get a long scrawny one like ds.

LisaJasper · 20/03/2009 13:54

DS1 3 days late, 7lb 12oz, ds2 8 days late 6lb 15oz - that also shows 2nd babies are not always bigger! I have to say though with my first I saw a consultant the day before he was born who got his weight right exactly, and with no 2 the midwife said the week before that it wasn't a very big baby so the "experts" were pretty good a guessing for me.
