Hello

Im due on Tuesday and wondering whether what I've been having is a show or just normal discharge. Sorry if this is a bit TMI

There is no blood streaks but the consistency is wetter than before (ie what I've had all pregnancy which was just white and creamy) and now looks like yellow "snot" - like when you've had a cold a few days. I've had this for 3 days as a normal discharge rather than getting one big globule of it.

Is this any indicator that labour is close? I have a feeling i might be overdue but i hope i dont need to be induced!

thanks

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/03/2009 19:14

I've had a show over the course of the weekend and some pains/cramps but nothing consistent. I'm just wondering how long to the main event - I'm due a week tomorrow.

nickymorris · 15/03/2009 22:24

My show was a pretty definite and surprisingly large globule of clear mucus (no blood) rather than normal discharge. It came about 10 days before I went into labor though which is longer than the books say it normally is.

lilymolly · 15/03/2009 22:28

if you are due on Tuesday why are you having a sweep on friday? you will be only 3 days overdue?

I am only asking as I am also due tuesday yet I am having no cervical assessment until I am 10 days over and AM DESPERATE TO GET THIS BABY OUT

And breathe............

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 16/03/2009 10:21

Hi there.

My MW is very good and wants to increase chances of me having my planned HWB.

She did a S&S on my friend 4 days BEFORE her due date!

She's said to me that she will do a S&S on Friday at 3 days over if I want it or for the first time at 1 week over.

I feel the pain of wanting the baby out!
but Im horrified at the thought of a sweep, but strangely not the pain of the birth!

Will ask tomorrow when I see mw

superdenki · 16/03/2009 15:57

Hi GYO - just had my first show - no blood or anything, but it was a big old thing and in one go. Have had back pains since 6am which got me up and tummy pains (contractions? how do I know?!) every 15 mins or so since about 11am. No idea if this is it or not - I don't want to get my hopes up in case it isn't, but would be lovely if it is as I am more than ready and due tomorrow anyway!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 18/03/2009 12:50

That sounds promising Boobz... Its really hard to know if anyhting is happening isnt it. Any twinge and you think "is this it" but then its disappointing when its not.

Keeping everything crossed for you. Have you rung your DH/SP or anything? Its hard to know when to ring and set the panic off!

I've been feeling achey on and off all morning now, but havent said anything to my DH... will wait since I expect it to go away!

OP posts:
Boobz · 18/03/2009 13:29

I phoned DH up and said "my plug's gone!" and he was like "lovely!". I told him I had no idea whether this was it or not and that the pains were very irregular and not difficult to manage, and that this could go on for days before really getting going, so not to worry or come home or anything. He then phoned up an hour later saying "it's very hard to concentrate here - are you sure it's not really kicked off yet?" so I said I would phone him if it got to the point I thought I needed a wing man to see me through the contractions (if that's what they are?). He seemed happy enough with that and hasn't rung again since, but I'm sure I'll get another phone call by 3 or so!

Isn't it weird that you actually want the pain to get worse so you know it's actually working and you're in proper labour? Any other time and you'd be wanting it to go away! Ha.

lizziemun · 18/03/2009 13:30

GYo

I'm 41+4 and have had a show and backache with contractions almost every day since about 39wks and i'm still here.

Boobz · 18/03/2009 13:33

ARGH Lizzie! That's rubbish!

madwomanintheattic · 18/03/2009 13:34

show with ds1 was two weeks lol. you did ask. good luck!

Boobz · 18/03/2009 13:47

Where are all those people who say "had a show in the morning and had baby by tea time", eh??

madwomanintheattic · 18/03/2009 14:16

was tittering away at chris evans the other week when his wife had a show and they were all telling him to go home as birth was imminent. or not lol.

but it definitely means you're going to have a baby.

soon. ish.

good luck!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 18/03/2009 15:00

LOL oh well, better get my patience hat back on!

Its so lovely out today that I realised its quite nice being able to read a book in the sunshine on my own... so I've decided to try and enjoy it.... (give me 5mins and I will be back here being inpatient again!)

Any change for you Boobz|?

Boobz · 18/03/2009 16:55

Had a nap and then got up to take dog for walk... had a couple of painful contractions (am going to call them that as I don't know that they're not contractions, IYSWIM) but nothing for the last half hour.

Am home now - am going to have something to eat and then bounce on my ball. Have a feeling today was just a bit of a practice sesh and that I'm not really in labour yet. But still, gives me confidence I'm not going to go 3 weeks overdue or anything!

What book are you reading?

lizziemun · 18/03/2009 17:31

Boobz

Welcome to my world . I have done the ironing this afternoon and everything has stopped again.

I am the consultant tomorrow so i will get a date to be induced so at least i can see the end in sight horaay.

Boobz · 18/03/2009 17:42

I really want to avoid induction Lizzie, as this first means my home waterbirth is out of the window, but also because I anticipate to be much more painful and medical which i want to avoid. Are you not worried about the problems which go with being induced?

lizziemun · 19/03/2009 06:25

Prob because I was induced with dd2 I know what to expect. And although it was more intenses (4hours from start to finish) I managed with just gas and air.

I think because i am only 5ft and carry all out the front and have 'big' babies (9lb plus) i am just so uncomfortable i just want the baby out. As after 3 + weeks of contractions starting and stopping everyday which i find very draining, it's also not fair on my other dd's as i don't think i cope with them very well when tired and uncomfortable.

But on the hand i can not understand why anyone would want a homebirth let alone a waterbirth. I couldn't cope with all the mess. But then i have to empty the bath and start again if there is a hair in it .

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 19/03/2009 08:56

Morning

How are you both, Boobz, Lizziemum?

Boobz- I am also hoping for 1st time HWB so also keen to avoid induction. though despite wanting to avoid it I think by the time I get to 2 wks over I will be so fed up I wont care how it comes out! (think I will be most fed up with people asking!)

Im not reading anything exciting, just some irish chick lit that came with a mag my concentration span isnt up to much these days.

Lizzie- wow, i feel for you if you are 5ft... I am 5,10 and also feeling v uncomfy so it must be much worse if there is less space for the baby to move!

Im still getting lots of "snot" and aches but nothing much yet. Tried sex last night so will see if that has any effect today... no idea how long it takes to work if its going to...
