I'm 39weeks today and baby is 3/5ths engaged.

Really bad SPD and struggling with my 15mth DS.

I asked the midwife today when would be the earliest they would give me a sweep and i'm booked in for monday afternoon.

I just wanted some advice really , how to maximise the effectiveness of the sweep, stimulate the prostglandins etc...and as you are the resident pro...any advice would be much appreciated!

TIA.

it will depend on how ripe your cervix is. positive that the baby is engaged. a sweep will work if you would have gone into labour anyway.. sex and nipple stim do help, but you do have to have a ripening cervix really.

they tend to be more effective around 41 weeks, but not to say it won;t help if you are ready

i feel for you with SPD and a toddler to run around after

baby is def pushing downwards alot more. don't know if that means anything.

does evening primrose oil work too?

DH has been informed that his assistance will be required

i have not tried evening primrose, but i would be a tiny bit cautious of putting things into the vagina ( apart from DHs bits !! ) but some women do swear by it as a way to ripen the cervix. there is some info on it on gentlebirth.org i think

let us know how you get on!
