Hi. I am 14 days post delivery, the bleeding stopped on monday but has just strated again. Is it not far too early for first period?
Quick background.....
Normal delivery, ff. My uterus is still quite high (6cm below umbilicus) and I have spent a bit of time back on labour ward as have been in an awful amount of pain where I cannot move for up to an hour, and I mean I cannot move a bone.
Had lots of re-bound pain in my stomach and actually felt like I was still in labour, my body felt like it was and needed to push something else and due to the strain of my screaming I was losing lots of blood with each wave of pain. The hospital were talking about bits of placenta maybe being left behind, but they did a scan and said all looked ok and maybe it was regualr after pains
Anyway, was given AB's to treat possible infection in uterus and more for bladder and am pain free now.......so what's this bleeding?

I think it's normal to bleed for up to 6 weeks as I did.
If you're really worried phone the maternity unit again for advice.

I would ask for a scan again, do you feel unwell? temperature?

I bled for 6 weeks, so i dont think it will be a period.

Thanx whyme2 I bled for 6 weeks continuos with first one, had 1 day free and came on, but I've had nearly 2 days no bleeding. Not overly worried as not in pain, just wanted to check what the norm was.....

You might be bleeding again because you are more active? The lochia blood is from the wound where your placenta came away from your womb wall, perhaps you have done something to open it again, so to speak?

I was told to expect up to six weeks too, and to look out for any clots larger than 50 pence pieces. Mine stopped for a day or two, then I walked hurriedly to the doctors because I was late about 4 weeks in and it started again...

Thanx Lotster, I haven't been un-active since birth (also have an 18mo) but like you all say, can bleed for upto 6 weeks so will keep an eye out for clots and see how it goes. Won't bother calling yet as they'll only tell me to go back and I don't want to!

Do go if you feel ill or have temp etc because it can be serious. Otherwise enjoy your LO and try not to do to much.

I started bleeding a lot at 14 days it was like someone turned a tap on. Slowed down when I led down. Put on antibiotics but then it started again 2 days later. Had to go into hospital for a ERPC when they found some retained placenta. Given more antibiotics. V heavy bleeding again after 3 days, yet more antibotics. You need to get help if you soak a sanitary towel in less than 1 hour, if that happens get help don't be fobbed off. I didn't have a fever at all but did need attention.

On a positive note once all that stopped, bled to 6 weeks (light period-ish) and then due to bf stopped for 10 months!

Thanx notperfect I think it's ok, I changed the pad last night after 2 hours, but that was due to hygiene rather than needing to iyswim, don't think it's that heavy but it is the heaviest it's been since delivery. I still feel well, have no pains, no temperature, so will continue to keep an eye on self and see what happens.
HV is coming today so will mention it to her, see what she thinks, but I'm pretty sure now all is ok.
Really hope there's nothing left over.........
