Bishops Score 3 - any advice

I'm 40+3 today and have had a sweep. The consultant has put a bishops score of 3 in my notes and booked me for an induction on 27th Feb if no signs by then. I've googled this and know that its not a good score - I am so desperate to avoid induction and just wondered if anyone else had a low score and did go on to give birth without induction? Got myself into a bit of a state and feeling very emotional about it all so any info/advice would be appreciated.

acupuncture and nipple tweaking. didn't have low score but worked for me. I had no show, no signs etc and went into labour naturally at 40+6 thanks to this.

and not surpried you're upset - step away from google and have some chocolate (it horrible being this far along isn't it).

I don't normally read this section as I'm not pg, but FWIW....

I've had four pregnancies and have been overdue with them all (dd1 40+11, dd2 40+8, dd3 40+3 and ds 40+9). Never had my bishops score measured though.

I was also not keen on induction as I wanted home water births. The thing to remember is that 'they' OFFER induction. 'They' can't make you have one if 'they' kindly offer, you can always say no.

If there are any indications that the baby is having difficulties that changes things, but if the only reason for booking an induction is that you're overdue (not that you are as technically a pregnancy runs up to 42 weeks) then I'd be very tempted to tell them to go away!

Try to relax and enjoy the end of your pregnancy being very emotional about this might well be a sign that things are happening anyway (I always get very stroppy about stuff at the end).

Hopefully you'll be cuddling your newborn before the appointment anyway. Try to chill

Thank you for your replies

Poppy34 - I think that google has a lot to answer for sometimes, I've completely bamboozled myself over so much while I've been pregnant!! Think I'll give the chocolate a try though, I definitely like that suggestion

Bumpybecky - that's a really good point about the induction, I never thought of that. Everything has been completely fine with the pregnancy, no problems for either me or baby. Feel quite positive now about what you've just said - think I might just be ringing them up tomorrow and saying thanks for the offer but no thanks!!

I had a bishops score of 3 followed by one prostin pessary and a 4 hour labour.

Induction doesn't have to be awful. Bishops score doesn't mean everything.

Oh Lou031205 I think if you were here I'd give you a big hug right now!! Thank you so much for your positive reply Glad you had a nice quick labour

No problem I was induced at 39+6.

Naoisi glad to hear you're feeling more positive

if it were me I'd not call tomorrow. The appointment is in 10 days time which at your stage of pregnancy is aaaages away!

The chances are you'll have had your baby before the appointment anyway. If you tell them to cancel now, they might give you grief about it (from experience they can get quite insistant) which will be stressful

If you are still pregnant by then, you might just want an induction . If you still don't want it then, it's easy enough to call the day before and say no.

Good luck

I've never made it passed a bishops score of 1 despite having 4 children and going well over before being induced. So 3 isn't that bad as you've still got 10 days to progress - I mean at least your body has started doing something already!

I have to say the inductions I had at 14 & 17 days overdue were really fine.

Just a quick update on this to say thank you to all the lovely ladies that offered me advice.

The day after my awful hospital appointment I went into labour and delivered my gorgeous baby boy naturally with just gas & air. I'm so happy that I proved the Dr wrong and did it on my own
