Saw midwife today at emergency app, was having serious down below pains! Had am internal and She has written go my notes 'cervix visible'. She said i wasn't go labour but prob wouldn't make it to term! I am 34 weeks with dc 4. Just wondering if any of you clued up ladies know if the cervix should be 'visible' at this stage? she did say it was closed btw. Sorry to be so clueless! L x

i am not sure, but I think it does tend to just be softer and stuff after having kids... so maybe it's just cos you've already had 3 and the pressure of baby is pushing down?

I think it means that it is forward. When it's back they can't see it and apparently it needs to move forward and line up with your fanjo

Cervix visible? Is this right? Was she doing a speculum or a digital examination?

lollipopz · 18/02/2009 21:11

It was cervix visible she wrote. It was a speculum.

Sounds to me like she just felt that she had to write something in your notes to "justify the speculum exam and wasn't really sure what else to put.

Your cervix should be visible with a speculum...that is the point of doing a speculum
