Had to go for a growth scan yesterday as bump not very big. I'm 36+5 into my 5th pregnancy. They told me baby is so far only weighing in at 4lb 8oz, leg measurements are normal, placenta function normal, small head and v small tummy. My other babies weighed betweeen 6lb 10oz and 8lb 1oz so am worried about this one. I've been very busy and have worked right through this pregnancy, due to give up on friday, although i've now taken the rest of the week off! Any advice from other mums or mums to be who have had the same problem? x

I have had the same problems with my pregnancy - Am 40+2 today.
Been having regular growth scans since 28weeks & I only measure 31cm.

I was told the estimated birth weight of my baby would be 5lb5oz.
No reason for this, same as you, everything normal. Its just going to be a small baby. Has the consultant asked to see you again?
As long as they keep an eye on the growth & baby is growing...slowly perhaps, but growing, i would try not to worry.
I found my baby started to grow a little more when I finished work at 36weeks. So perhaps when your finished, it might help.

Hope all goes well, try not to worry, good luck x

p.s - At my 36week scan, she was only 4lbs 10oz - At my 38week scan she was 5lb 14oz.

there is a study indicating an association between stillbirth and babies trundling under the 5th centile. Go for those scans!!

Both my babies were induced early (one at week 37, the other at week 36) for failure to grow; it was felt that they'd be safer outside. In the event, both were fine: dd weighed 2900 g, ds 2500 g. But they did need a little extra help with feeding.

I would personally be sceptical of ultrasound prediction of weight. My third child was allegedly growth retarded from 20 weeks onwards. To me she felt just the same as her sister. Ultrasound prediction of birthweight was 5lbs. My obs told me she'd be 6lb after feeling my bump at 38 weeks. I bet her between 7.5 and 8 lbs. She laughed.

She roared with laughter four weeks later when said child was born weighing 7 lbs 9 oz.
