OK, baby no. 2

Just lying down after bedtime (my lo's) . Felt a pop and water everywhere. Sat up, have wet through 2 towels (bath not sanitary!). I assume my waters have broken? Not getting any reg contractions though am feeling tightenings. It's still leaking, how long does this continue for?

I am going to ring the hospital now, should I? I don't want to go in til I am close will they make me come now?

Should I ring my mum, she will be looking after my child (in bed asleep), 35 mins away. Also don't want her here if I have to wait I while, she will insist I get to hosp asap.

Have just sent DH for a shower.

What should I do, they only broke just before birth last time?

how mnay weeks are you?
yes to ringing your mum, if possible arrange for her to stay the night
yes to ringing the hospital, make sure they have a bed free otherwise you might have to drive further to your next nearest hospital
make sure bags are packed, instructions for your mum are given
and then try and rest, if you are like me it will all happen over night!

Call the hospital - some have different policies about when to come in - I imagine though that they'll want you to stay at home for as long as possible.

How many weeks are you?

PlumBumMum · 09/02/2009 19:46

Ring your mum get her there
then ring hosp, tell them whats has happened so they at least know expect you soon

good luck, EXCITING

yeap your waters have broke btw

nuttygirl · 09/02/2009 19:47

Good Luck.

When my waters broke I was asked to go in and they monitored me for about 45 minutes. If you're not in labour then , they'll send you back home.

lou031205 · 09/02/2009 19:59

How exciting! Please tell us how many weeks you are, a lot depends on that

Theochris · 09/02/2009 20:02

Thanks for the messages

I'm 38+5/39 so it's not unexpected! I think I get 24 hrs at my hosp before augmentation after waters have gone.

I'm quite surprised at the volume of it!

I have called my mum, and the hosp. Apparently as long as no-one needs to do an internal I get 72 hours to establish labour They do want me to pop in to have a listen to the baby though.

So I'd better go and clear up the mess and check my bag.

Thanks for all your help

Call the hospital. If you are full term they will most likely say stay home overnght and come in for checks in the morning.
Hopefully your contractions will start before then though!
Good uck, how exciting!!!

Mine went and i went in so they could a have a look at the delightful maternity pad that was failing to soak up the olympic sized swimming pool I was apparently leaking. They sent me hoe and I had a false start for 12 hrs. This was on sat afternoon and dd didn't appear til Tuesday am.

Hope it's all quick and straightforward. If you get a chance to sleep before the contractions kick in do it!! I didn't and was exhausted very quickly in labour as a result!

lauraloola · 09/02/2009 20:19

When mine started leaking I had 72 hours before induction if labour didnt start. Baby was monitored for an hour and we were sent home!

I woke up the next morning in labour and dd that day.

Good luck x

Just a quickie to say thanks to everyone.

I popped to the hosp for a check. Came home at 10 pm. Things hotted up from there and I felt my labour was established so I returned at midnight.

Had ds at 3am just over 7 lbs, not too much damage, forgot how much it hurts! Home before lunch.

Thanks all.
