straw poll: do you have a short menstrual cycle and did your LO come early?

I've wondered about this.. would like to know your experiences.

My menstrual cycle is 25-26 days, and my DS was 1 week early (following 3 days of ctx).

I wondered if it follows, and if women with longer cycles are more likely to go 'overdue'. Was reading something on the net about it..

yes - 25 ish days
no - DD1 3 days late DD2 13 days late.
there goes that theory.

fruitshootsandheaves · 08/02/2009 21:48

yes 35 days and all 2 weeks late (oh except DS2 but he was a bit unusual so doesn't count!)

was induced with first, so argued my case with othes that I wasn't as late as they thought due to longer cycle and wasn't induced again.

Astarte · 09/02/2009 12:06

I think there might be something in it. I know when I ovulated with each of my children so should really have expected them to be a little bit late, which they were.

Dd1 O on cd19 (arrived 5 days late)
Ds1 O on cd 20 (arrived 7 days late, after S&S)
Ds2 O on cd 18 (arrived 3 days late)
Dd2 O on cd 13 (due tomorrow, so if the theory holds she should arrive today)

peachface · 09/02/2009 12:08

yes to short cycle,
no to early babies:
ds 1 6 days late
ds2 11 days late

januarysnowdrop · 09/02/2009 12:09

My cycle is 24 days, & I wondered about this when dd1 was 10 days early, but then dd2 was 4 days late, so I'm not sure there's anything in it!

OrmIrian · 09/02/2009 12:10

Yes. 26/27 days. All my babies were a few days early

Lotster · 09/02/2009 12:16

My cycle is 28 days

first baby came at 8 days late
2nd is still in tum! due in three weeks.

My friend has a 31 day cycle, and went overdue by two weeks with both her two, when she was induced.

Could be something in it from her experience?

mummy2t · 09/02/2009 12:17

yes my cycle is roughly 22 days. ds1 was nearly 4 weeks early, ds2 was 3 weeks early

Kagey · 10/02/2009 14:36

My cycle is 24 days but dd was 12 days late

KERALA1 · 10/02/2009 14:38

Yes! Cycle 25-26 days

DD1 - 3 weeks early

dd2 5 weeks early (eek better watch out if we have another!)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/02/2009 14:39

yes, 25-26 days, DD was 4 weeks early!

Drusilla · 10/02/2009 14:40

Yes, 22 days but only 1 week early

Gemzooks · 10/02/2009 21:38

thanks!

So far it makes sense, albeit very tentatively. There seems to be more link between long cycle = late baby than short cycle = early baby though..

To summarise, of the births people have mentioned (when they've said 'all my babies' I've assumed 3.

births to ladies with shorter than average cycles,
9 early,
5 late

longer than average cycles:
7 late
0 early

keep em coming, this is interesting!

Can you tell I'm 33 weeks with DC2 and hoping to be early again!

long cycles - 35+ days.
dd1 - 38 weeks
dd2 - 35 weeks

My friend who has short cycles - nearly 3 weeks overdue.

weaselbudge · 11/02/2009 17:18

Don't think there's anything in it - I have 23 day cycle and I was 8 days late - and then labour only started after a sweep.

claire002 · 12/02/2009 13:58

Yes for me - 35 day cycle and went to 42 weeks before being induced. I've read that white/middle class/educated women (ie my social group) have an average gestational length of 288 days rather than the 280 days (40 weeks) assumed (which is based on some calculations a guy did in the 1800s !!), and that you should add 1 day onto your due date for every day your cycle is over 28 days. So by my reckoning that means I should have hung around until at least 42+1 and a bit longer. Wish I had known that at the time! Am totally prepared to keep waiting until mid/late June this time round, rather than EDD 1 June.

It's all averages though, which makes no difference to when your own baby will decide to say hello! Good luck!

Sheeta · 12/02/2009 14:01

Cycle is 28 days, DS was 10 days late.

Niecie · 12/02/2009 14:02

Cycle of 23 days and DS1 was bang on time (due date), DS2 was 6 days early.

christywhisty · 12/02/2009 14:10

Before I had DS my periods were about 31-35 days. My first scan showed DS as small for dates and this was put down to long periods and my due date was moved by a week. I was eventually induced 2 weeks early because of pre eclampsia.

DD came along 3 weeks early of her own accord.
