Has anyone had a vbac in water at St.George's?

Just wondering if anyone has succeeded in convincing the HOM/consultants?

I've been told I won't get into the MLU (Carmen Suite) due to being "high risk"

I know the risks so I don't want anyone making me feel bad about my choice. Just want to know who was successful?

I'll be calling the HOM at Carmen today - as soon as I've built up the courage!

Hi
Don't have experience of St Georges, but I had a VBAC in water with Kings midwives a few years ago.

First off, I went to a class they ran on water births to find out usual policies & practices etc, and then had a one-to-one meeting with the head of midwifery.

At that meeting she went through my notes from my previous birth, and discussed hospital policy on VBACs, and the danger signs they are looking for etc etc. In the end, I opted for a home birth (through Kings) as I felt this would give me the best level of care and control over the labour. I was worried that if I was overdue etc etc, there was a strong chance I'd end up with another EMC. By having the baby at home, I had the benefit of 2 midwives solely concentrated on my care and no concerns about the birthing pool being 'in-use' by someone else. The midwives monitored me sporadically (with a doppler that worked in the water) and I could move around as I wanted.

Hope you manage to get the birth you want x

Thanks chickentonight, I've been strongly advised against a HB (which is what I originally wanted) I decided a waterbirth in the MLU would be the perfect option as it's only 1 floor away from the labour ward. It's proving to be very difficult though
I've spoken to the midwife in charge of the MLU who took my details to pass on (she said highly unlikely I'll be allowed). I've not head back yet so I'm going to call the HOM now.

I forgot to say, how wonderful to have been given the opportunity to have a HVBAC!

Did they try to bully you into having a hospital birth 1st?
