Stretch and Sweep - ... what's next?

My consultant did the honours 8 hours ago, as I'm 36 weeks with good sized twins (already have 3 kids - eek!) and a very distended belly. She said I was 3cm and stretchy so there should be pains soon. Nothing to note, although a bit crampy. Anyone with experience of a stretch and sweep - how long does it take to kick things off?

Won't unless you're pretty ready anyway - would only speed things up by 24-48 hours earlier than it would be anyway IYSWIM.

My sweeps were totally pointless - had two over three days and baby didn't come until 5 days later

I had baby 51 hours later. Sex helped

i had 3 sweeps, each a week apart.
from the first they said all signs were promising.
the first two resulted in shows but nothing else.
i went into labour 36 hours after the third (but was 8 days overdue by that point so labour may have kicked-off anyway).

With dd2 I went into labour about 36 hours after having my sweep (sweep was on my due date). I'm not sure whether the sweep precipitated things or not. First time round, with dd1, I didn't hav a sweep and went 8 days overdue.

thanks ladies; was getting all excited there and hoping to escape from boring bedrest and puffed up legs. But maybe I should crack on with the next project and forget about the sweep. x

Still, it gave me a good excuse for the kids to spend the weekend with their grandma!
