...and then go blonde when they are a few months old?

Does anybody know?

No idea, my DS was born with jetblack hair and 2.6 years on he has mousey brown/red hair, exact same as me, alhough DP was brn dark went blonde and is now dark again...

Strange, isn't it.

Maybe it's hormones?

i didn't like to use peroxide on dd until she was at least 6 weeks old.

MarmadukeScarlet · 29/01/2009 12:54

DD was born with thick longish black hair and (my v. snobby MIL) said, 'thank goodness, hair just like her father's'.

I replied, 'All the babies in my family are born with black hair (as I and my sibs nephews were), she'll go blonde within a few weeks'. Lo and behold hers grew out white blonde in a line, like when you need your roots touching up, she looked like a bizarre magpie!

DS had less hair when born and his went blond in a less startling, more gradual fashion.

Yes isn't it strange. I was told the dark would fall out before the fair came in, but it didn't with either of mine ... dd had sweet "paintbrush" hair - honey coloured with black ends - until her first haircut

Bink · 29/01/2009 12:55

x-post (and x-baby, it seems!) with Marmaduke

CrushWithEyeliner · 29/01/2009 12:56

yes v strange! DH and i are both blond v fair fine hair and I was shocked when I saw DD pop out with a thick black mane. Went blonde after 4 weeks lol

mustsleep · 29/01/2009 13:08

ooh so help me out here we are on lo3 and ds was born with gingery orange hair and lots of it which was not a shock as i have red hair and dh strawberry blonde

however he went nearly completely bald at the sides and this has now come back through a blonde red much lighter than his hair on top

but he is still really dark just in one patch right at the top of his head, will this just fall out or just change colour at some point

it's really strange

both mine were born with loads of black hair, as were myself, dp and his brother.

dd's just kept growing and is still black
ds's fell out and grew back mousy brown
dp and bol kept theirs and both are now brown, dp lighter than bol
all mine fell out and i was practically bald til 2 and now have black hair

Marthasmama · 29/01/2009 13:36

My DD had jet balck hair when she was born. She is 16 weeks today and has lovely chocolate hair with blonde and red highlights. Looks like I spent £100 on the colour, would have asked for a refund on the cut though. Bald at the sides with long fluffy bits on top......beautiful!

chandellina · 29/01/2009 21:09

because the sun don't shine up there?

Essie3 · 29/01/2009 21:12

Ohhhh, my DS was born with white blonde hair, and it fell out and grew back again still blonde.
Shocker as both DH and I are quite dark.

Gingeme · 29/01/2009 21:40

Ialso thought it was because of all the gunk they have in their hair when theyre first born but obviously thats washed out with the first couple of baths.
With ds3 he was born ginger and has stayed ginger no doubt about it.

CherryChoc · 01/02/2009 19:22

Apparently I was born with very dark hair, went very blonde when I was little, then faded slowly to mousy brown which it still is now!
