Any experiences of Elective Section and immediate sterilisation?

Hi, I'm due to have an elective CS next week for DC2 which will be my last.

I've asked to be sterilised at the same time...we know we don't want any more children and, as much as I'm looking forward to having this baby, I've had a horrible pregnancy dogged with sickness / BP / anxiety issues / medication etc, and I'm 40....so definitely no more!

However, I'm due to go in to sign my consent forms on Friday, and I'm having a bit of a wobble ....if I tell my DH, he will just put it down to hormone / nerves etc and he is very certain we are doing the right thing.

Is this normal? Can I sign a "if everything is ok then go ahead" consent form? Will they just do it irrespective? Is my mind just running riot?

Any experiences?

TIA

You can withdraw consent at any time until they have done it, and if there was an obvious problem with the baby(sorry for being blunt) they might not be willing to go ahead then anyway. I suppose the question is would you want to have another baby if the worst did happen to either of your children.
The other thing is that if you are really sure that you dont want another child, then sterilisation, especially at the time of the C section isnt that reliable. The mirena coil has a much lower failure rate.

Thanks - I'm sure there is that little bit inside me thinking....what if everything isn't ok.........trying to ignore those feelings though tbh.

AFAIK, they are removing a section of each tube rather than clipping / ligating, so hopefully it is reliable.

A very "final" thing to do isn't it?

Yes, it is.

I didnt get sterilised at my last section. I dont want anymore children, but I had concerns about the risk of sterilisation failing, and also if anything happened to my children I knew I would regret having it done, so for the moment I'm on the pill.
Its probably different if you wouldnt have any more children no matter what happened.

I know I don't want any more whatever....but if there was something obvious next week at the time IYKWIM, I probably wouldn't want to go through with it...I feel awful even thinking like this....

I've thought about it, 38 about to have my second child but you don't know what will happen to your children, its sometimes not evident at birth if anything is wrong. I've also had an awful pregnancy and never want to go through this again. I'm probably having an elective C-section and had thought about being sterilised but its a bit final. Can't you DP have the snip at a later date?

mmmm don't think he'll be very keen...

I am sure, think I'm just having a wobble....

I need my gall bladder out, perhaps they'll do tubes and gall bladder together in a few months....
