hi im 21wk pg and just cant stop thinking about the birth even though along way away, since midwife told me id be unlikely to have time for an epidural with a second birth.

im really not good with pain and sort of knew id prob have one with ds and i must admit i had a pretty good experience, made it much calmer and think dh found it easier not seeing me in pain and i was chatting and really quite happy during labour and birth. midwife has just made me think what im gonna do if i cant have one this time round for whatever reason.

first labour and birth went like this-

induction at 42wks using pessary tablet at 8.30am
contractions started at 1pm
waters broke at 3cms
laboured ok till 11pm, put on oxitocin(sp) drip really intensified contractions straightaway, having one every 2 mins
12am 5cms had epidural
laboured pain free till 6.30am fully dilated
ds born 1 hour later with no intervention and no tearing!

so i am considered as really low risk and midwife even tried talking me into a home birth but thats not an option for me, but am thinking about maybe trying to cope without one and think maybe water will help anyone had a really good waterbirth experience in same situation as me or similar?

am also thinking away from epidural as it was a pain being numb and not able to move around after for ages afterwards, would also like to be out of hospital as soon as possible this time and know that having an epidural will prob prolong things alot coz of being wired up to so many things ect...

wow sorry to go on so much hope poeple dont get too bored before they get a chance to post lol!

great water birth experience both times. However I have no other birth experiences to compare against.

It is known to help with relaxation and also to help with sense of privacy and control.

If you fancy it then go for it.. The water for me was so relaxing and the feeling of freedom being able to move in any direction I choose was fabulous.

HI there - I had an identical experience with DC1, induction, oxytocin, epidural (only I also had ventouse). Second time around I had home birth with just gas and air. I was so looking forward to get into my birth pool but baby arrived before I had time! I would thoroughly recommend, and don't worry, the first time was way painful but I reckon it was the induction drugs partly, as the contractions never really approached the same level of pain second time. It was a breeze (well, almost!) Talk it through with your midwife but I would def think about it.

My first 2 were induced, epidural with both (didnt work with 2nd, was too late). Hated all drugs, made me ill. Fab water birth with no. 3, no drugs needed. Can def be done!
