Mucous Plug? How early did you start to lose yours?

Am 34+4wks and this wk one morning noticed a very different kind of discharge in my knickers. Alert!...TMI coming up...... Normally it's creamy and white. This time there was way more than usual & it was a greeny yellow colour and far stickier than usual. No blood in it but it looked just like snot. Today there was a tiny bit more of the same stuff but every day in between it has been back to the normal creamy stuff.

*Do you think this sounds like the mucous plug?
*What's the earliest any of you who have experience of this have started to lose your plug and how many weeks/days/ hours(!?) later did you deliver?
*Is it common to lose it over a period of time, bit by bit?

I was trying to dismiss this as nothing important but happened to mention it to someone who is convinced it's my plug and that baby will be here early, within 2 weeks.... any opinions/experience on all this??

No pinkmarshmallow, I'd say this doesn't sound like mucous plug, could be some kind of infection though or thrush. I'd get in touch with your GP or midwife and arrange to have a swab taken.

In saying that, it is not usual for you to lose bits of mucous plug over a period of weeks

I had an ante-natal appointment & scan this morning and got my urine checked, came back clear, so it can't be an infection. Have had thrush before and it was itchy and not green so don't think it is thrush.

Infection would not necessarily show up in your urine though, you would need to have a vaginal swab taken. Maybe not thrush but could be some other kind of non-symptomatic vaginal infection.

Oh. Silly me forgot to mention it to the doc at the clinic this morning. If it was an infection, I wonder why it's green one day, normal colour for a while and then back to green again a few days later?! [hmmm]

it sounds like a mucus plug to me. mine came the day before i went into labour.

The plug is often called a "bloody show" and mine certainly was. Clear mucus with blood through it.

It is possible to have thrush higher up your vagina than the usual "itchy" bout you may have had before, and not know anything about it. This happened to me once, discovered when I went for a smear and they had to postpone until it was gone.

Mine was snotty with red streaks in it, it came out when I was in well established labour, about half an hours before birth.
