Hypnobirthing course: worth the expense?

I'd love to hear about other people's experiences of hypnobirthing and views about shelling out 200 quid for a course. Worth the money, or can you get on just as well with a book and a CD on your own?

It may also be relevant to throw into the equation that DH - wonderful and supportive as he is - is a sceptical scientist by nature and I'm not sure how much he'd be into all this. I've heard that having your partner involved is very important to making the techniques work and don't want to waste money if that's going to be an obstacle for us.

Thanks for reading!

If you've got some months ahead try the Mongan book and the CD. See how you get on with it, and if you feel a course would be of advantage. The good thing about the course is you meet couples with very similar values.
I am reading the book it is absolutely fantastic!

whilst I think the theory (and practice which is key) are worth it... I think £250 was wasted as teacher was pants and imho downright dangerous/stupid in some of the things she was advocating (basically refusing various medical interventions. In hindsight I should have done a bit more research re actual course to go on -that said I do think the relaxation/visualation were good on the day.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted with their views. I've spoken to a HB practitioner in my area and she was very helpful and open to answering the most sceptical questions, so I think I'll give it a go.

I would say it was excellent. If in London I went on Patti Good's course: www.babyjourney.com and it was great. I ended up with a c-section but becuase of the course I was totally calm about it. Also ds was a very calm baby.....I don't know if the HB had anything to do with it but Patti did say HB babies are calmer babies. Plus the relaxation helps you sleep when V preggers.

It was money well spent.
