Did having Gestational Diabetes affect your labor and delivery?

Basically that's it.

I was told yesterday that I have it, and after having two great vaginal deliveries with ds1 an ds2, I'm worried about how it will affect the birth (if at all).

I'm still learning about this and any experience or advice is more than welcome.

No, although I was diagnosed very late, at 38 weeks. I was induced at term but had a normal vaginal delivery. DD was 8lb 10oz so big enough but not massive, which is why they induced me.

no not at all, also disgnosed late, about 35wks I think and controlled via diet

had an elective CS but that was due to previous labouring problems with DD1 and DD2

DD3, who was the only one I had GD with was smaller than the first 2 and I was given the option for a trial of labour if I went before my due date

Thanks so much I'm 31 weeks tomorrow, and although I'm not super worried, I've got tons of "what ifs" running through my mind.

I had 2 inductions for GD at 41 & 39 weeks, they were normal deliveries apart from that.
Do remember that you have some say on when you are induced and if diet controlled and everything fine, there's no reason to be induced early.
There are tests they do on the baby after birth, so decide if you're going to ff or bf early on so they know your wishes.
There was a long thread recently where several of us all had GD at the same time, i'll see if i can link it in a mo.

it can all be a bit confusing and upsetting. I was a tad concerned as, like you, I'd managed the first 2 pregnancies with nothing and then the test came back positive

my DD1 was 10lb4 and my DD2 was 11lb1 so I suppose it was inevitable

just to let you know, I somehow knew DD3 was smaller than the first two and they were very good when I said I wanted a trial of labour - they agreed up until my due date and then they would review it

I did have an elective in the end but mainly due to personal circumstances - nothing at all related to the GD

DD3 was fine, her sugars were checked a couple of times after she was born, she has breast fed successfully ever since and I am now all clear of GD again

hi MKG, i am 36+2 weeks and was diagnosed with GD at 29 weeks. I am taking metformin 3 times daily and eating low GI foods. having ultrasound scan to check size of baby every couple of weeks. This is my 2nd child and i am scheduled for csection in a couple of weeks time. i cannot be induced because i had a section with my DS.

my baby weighed approx 7 lbs at 34 weeks, so he is quite a big baby already.

like you, i am concerned about GD but my doc is very reassuring and i try not to beat myself up about having GD - which could affect my little one.

i also had pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy and now, my bp is climbing fast and gets high on some days. so i am keeping an eye on that too!

i will be much relieved when my little one is out safe and sound.

Good luck to you and know that getting GD is not at all unusual these days. make sure you get checked up regularly and all should be fine.

It shouldn't make a difference at all, other than the fact that you're not usually allowed to go overdue with GD so I suppose there's a higher chance of induction.
