How long were your second and third stages?

My third birth was fast, I know that, at about 2 hours.

I'm wondering whether the 2nd/3rd stages were especially speedy at 18 minutes for second stage and 5 minutes for 3rd stage for last baby (no.3).
I don't recall how long they were for no.2 and had a horrid protracted birth for no.1.

I just wondered as the m/w had written a comment at booking in appt and I've just noticed it in my notes (pg no.4).
Does anyone know why she might have written it in?

2nd stage - 30 mins
3rd stage - 45 mins

I think they make a note of all births and how they went, so anyone who picks up your notes can get a feel for how you birth.

Is 2nd stage pushing and 3rd stage placenta? If so;
ds1: 2nd stage - 1 hr / 3rd stage (managed) - 15 mins
ds2: 2nd stage - 1 or 2 mins / 3rd stage (natural) - 1.5 hrs

Astarte · 27/12/2008 17:09

That makes sense ILTHO.

CS, 1-2 mins

I don't actually know, but 1st contraction to birth was less than 15 mins, and I didn't really push as such, I reached down, had a contraction and delivered his head.

Astarte · 27/12/2008 17:17

Bloody hell....that's the birth I'd rather like tbh.

A friend of mine thought she needed a poo and went to the toilet. She'd had some light cramping and thought it was the D&V bug her other kids had recently had.

When she sat on the toilet she said she "felt odd"....it was only the head of her 9lb+ boy crowning!!!

She shouted of her Dh who came in to find her kneeling upright on the bathroom floor lifting a baby out.

She was in a bit of shock by the time the emergency services got to her bless her but everything was fine.

Home birth all natural..4 hours stage 1, 5 minutes stage 2, 40 minutes stage 3 but no contractions except the one that popped it out. CS I didn't push either, it just sort of happened.

Wisknit · 27/12/2008 18:22

2nd - 1hr 40 mins + 6 mins
3rd - no idea + 20 mins (both natural)

Rohan · 27/12/2008 22:07

Officially 2nd stage was 2 minutes and 3rd stage (managed against my will) 9 minutes.

First baby though.

PinkPoinsettias · 27/12/2008 22:13

dd
1st stage 18 hours
2nd stage 20 mins
3rd stage less than one as was given injection against my will

ds
1st stage 18 hours
2nd stage 10 mins
3rd stage 20-30 mins but the mw did tug on the cord at the end of that to see if the pacenta was ready to come out

really need to learn to speak up about the 3rd stage crap but i'm usually so tired and zoned out at that point i don't realise what they're doing until too late!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 28/12/2008 10:15

2nd stage - 49 minutes
3rd stage - 5 minutes (managed)

TheProvincialLady · 28/12/2008 11:44

Rohan and PP why/how did they manage your 3rd stage against your will? That is terrible.

ilove · 28/12/2008 11:47

My fastest was no3...36min 1st stage 4 seconds second stage...

psychohohohoho · 28/12/2008 11:54

DD1 - second stage - 1hr, 3rd stg - no idea but it was managed.

DD2 - 2nd stg - 5mins, 3rd stg - 5mins

DD3 - 2nd stg - 5mins, 3rd stg - 2mins

DS1 - 2nd stg - 10mins, 3rd stg - 5mins

DS2 - 2nd stg - 4mins, 3rd stg - managed (and even then they missed half!

Rohan · 28/12/2008 14:04

Provincial Lady - MWs arrived as I was pushing (HB) and I'd never met them before. I was given the injection in my thigh as DD delivered, when I was a bit too busy to notice.

Even though I'd told my regular MW I didn't want it and put it in my birth plan.

To be fair on them they didn't know me and it was all a bit fast, it's not like I was shouting at them not to do it or anything.

Similarly, they did NOT ask permission and medical care and the administration of drugs should never be assumed or done without explicit consent except in the case of life threatening emergency.

I do understand why they did it and am not hugely angry, but they did do it without permission and had I had any ill effects from it I would have been extremely angry.

In the event, once I'd had a minute to digest the fact that I'd just given birth, I may well have asked for it anyway (I had a precipitous birth which is a risk factor for PPH) being well read on the subject.

Doesn't excuse it though, I hear it all too often

SnowOfHands · 28/12/2008 14:06

2nd stage was 6hrs with dd (double the recorded length of the 1st stage)

No 3rd stage as I had an em cs in the end.

TheProvincialLady · 28/12/2008 16:38

That is really rubbish Rohan I was as sick as a dog when I had the injection with DS1 so I was adamant I wasn't having it this time unless medically necessary. When the time came the MW put me under pressure to have it and I almost gave in because I was so tired, but luckily my doula reassured me there was no rush and I could just relax, which I did and it came out when it was ready. All that fuss and potential puking just to save a few minutes, and it didn't hurt a bit either.

lollipopmother · 28/12/2008 16:55

I'm pretty sure that my 2nd stage was 40mins (uder epidural), I can't remember 3rd stage stats although I assume I had the injection as I put it in my birth plan.

lindenlass · 28/12/2008 17:49

Speedy 3rd stage if you didn't have the injection, but slightly shorter than average 2nd stage I'd say. My second stages were all much shorter than average (third stages were all physiological):

#1 2nd stage 5min, 3rd stage 30min
#2 2nd stage 15min, 3rd stage 30min
#3 2nd stage 15min, 3rd stage 20min
#4 2nd stage 10min, 3rd stage 15min

jinglebelles · 28/12/2008 22:01

???????????????

ALL STAGES 45 MINS!!! THAT GOOD??
lol

PinkPoinsettias · 29/12/2008 11:51

TPL... similar to rohan... i was given the injection by one mw while the other was resussitating dd.... i didn't even see her do it as i was watching dd

it caused major bleeding and a retained placenta too which made the first hours and days fairly miserable.

i was very careful to discuss it before ds was born as a result and it clearly is extremely uncommon in that hospital to have a physiological third stage as the (senior) mw had rarely done one and the student mw who was only weeks from completing her training had never seen one before!

mumbot · 29/12/2008 11:58

21 hours labour with 3 pushing

TheProvincialLady · 29/12/2008 15:19

That is really shocking I can't think why physiological third stages are so uncommon - after a normal labour and delivery. For me the vomiting after the injection ruined some of our first hours.
