Can I have a water birth if I have a verruca?

I'm 36+5 weeks and all set for my home water birth, the pool is blown up and everything is ready but it's just occurred to me that I have quite bad verruca's on my feet! Will these get passed on to my baby? Have I got time to get them treated?

Yes you can
No they wont
No not enough time to get rid of them

DoNotsAntlers · 18/12/2008 13:59

Get banana skin on them myou may get rid of some inthe next 3-4wks.

Lotster · 18/12/2008 14:38

Crikey, just realised reading this that I had one when I laboured in the water - didn't think!

Banana skin tip is interesting, nothing got rid of the bugger in pregnancy.

littlefrog · 18/12/2008 14:41

never occurred to me either! Ds is of course fine; i still have my one and nobody else in the house does.
You could try something like Verrugon if banana skin doesn't appeal. Or just cover it with a plaster in the water.

lljkk · 18/12/2008 14:46

Isn't the baby likely to get it just from living in same house with you (all the possibiities for contact), anyway?

I have something on my feet, either verrucas that have lasted for years, or atypical corns - nobody looks at your feet when you are about give birth, though, I promise.

I think there are a lot bigger things to worry about during labour.

merryberry · 18/12/2008 15:25

god funny things we worry about good luck!

reluctant1stimer · 18/12/2008 16:38

Thanks everyone. I'll stop worrying. What side of the banana skin, Donotsantlers? Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely try that.
lljkk I'm not worried about anyone seeing them! I think there'll be more on show than my feet to worry about!

This thread title made me laugh sorry!

DoNotsAntlers · 18/12/2008 20:37

the fleshy side of a banana skin (the white bit not the yellow bit).

Search teh archives for banana and verucca.

sorkycake · 19/12/2008 07:30

Can you not use that stuff that freezes them? It's only supposed to take a couple of applications.

I do think this is possibly the strangest thread i've ever seen in 'childbirth'

smartiejakeonachristmascake · 19/12/2008 07:51

If you are really worried about it you could always wear one of those verrucca sock things that you can get for the swimming pool. You can buy them at the chemist.

belgo · 19/12/2008 07:52

It's an interesting question because I think verrucas are caused by a virus?

I agree with the other posters - if you can't get rid of them , then buy one of those verruca socks.
