This is my 5th pregnancy and i am a week overdue the last two children arrived at 40weeks and 39 weeks . Have tried all the usual methods to help induce labour but none have been successful. I am trying to get used to idea that I may have to be induced. Does anybody know if this would be done by breaking my waters combined with using a drip or by using prostagland pessaries.

I had accupunture with my last as I was 2 weeks overdue & didnt want to be induced. It worked a treat- but then maybe baby was ready to come then!

The chances are you will go into labour naturally before the induction especially if you have two spontaneous labours previously.

My first was 37+5 and my second 41+5 so no pattern there I was booked in for induction but she decided to come 2 days before.

Have no experience with inductions sorry

How they iduce you will totally depend on the results of your internal examiniation. They will assess your cervix for softness, length and dilation and depending on that they will either try the pessary or go straight for breaking your waters. They will only use the drip if the first method does nto work or it labour is very slow or stalls.

Good luck.

Thankyou for the replys I am having a sweep tomorrow but have heard that they are not always effective at brining labour on. If I were to be induced how does this influnce the length of stay in hospital was hoping to be discharged after 6 hours .
