babies turning OP during contractions

I was just wondering if anyone else's baby turned OP during contractions? Throughout my whole pregancy the baby was in the correct position with head down and back was towards my left hand side ( so I was told in all my check-ups )however on the day I went to labour, they said the back was on my right handside which came as a bit of a shock and during the labour when they re-checked me doing an internal ( as the baby would not come out) they said the baby had turn OP. I thought that was very strange as I thought the baby is too big to move at that stage?

Yes mine both have, they were both ROL to start and went OP during the labour, although both came out OA in the end.

The theory is that a baby turns in a clockwise direction so if starting at ROL as yours appeared to do, then they would move 270 degrees to OA rather than take the quicker 90 degree anti-clockwise turn. I don't know how well proven that is, or if it is just anecdotal, but my case supported that theory.
They do keep moving about in lots of ways, some people on here with breech babies have had them turn on there own at a very late stage in pregnancy, so your case doesn't sound that unusual. It's bad luck for you though.

Yes mine did. I kept saying how it started to hurt much quicker than I remembered during labour, and when they had a prod around they realised that was why.

Yes. At 5am I got niggles, a few contractions a long time apart. 3.30pm I saw my community MW who said DD was in a perfect position (as she always had been), contractions still irregular etc.

At 11.30pm when I arrived at the Hospital, MW took one feel and said she was OP. She checked my notes and went "oh, your in for a long one, baby it going to do a full 360 turn". She was right

My MW seemed to be really relaxed about it, she was sure it was quite common - I wish someone had warned me before hand that it could happen though!

Ir happened to me, plus he came out with his hand stick to his face, so......obviously complicated, and taff: ventouse delivery, not that bad, considering 8lb 10z, 2nd. tear. After 12 hrs.labour, no way I was going to be cut open!!!! So I give the biggest of the pushes for the ventouse chance.

Mine too. After DS finally went head down at 36 weeks I was pleased when the midwife told me that he was ideally positioned and that there was every chance that labour would go smoothly. Famous last words! My contractions stalled at transition and I ended up being transferred to hospital. DS had turned OP and I needed syntocin to re-start labour. I was lucky and got him out unassisted (by which time he'd turned OA again) but 30 hours of labour was not quite what I'd hoped for .

Gosh - you lot are making me realise how lucky we were!

DD managed the whole spin around and out with 2nd degree tears on G&A. It did however take 26 hours and alot of time afterwards for me to calm down.

Next time I will be opting for an eppidural at the slightest hint of an OP delivery.

My dd turned to op in the very early stages of labor and decided she wasnt gonna budge no matter what and was born in that position.

I did it on just gas & air and was in labor for 2 1/2 days and pushed for 3 hours.
After 7 hours i only went up from 5cms to 7cms. That was so disappointing coz i was exhausted by then and they had to pop my waters which did quick things up a bit.
