Am I Almost There Yet?!

Im 38 weeks pregnant, and despite it being my second pregnancy, I am new to the whole labour experience as my DS was born by EMCS at 29+5.

For the past two days, it has felt as though baby has been 'rummaging' around really low down below, yet MW says she still isnt engaged. I am feeling lots of pressure as though she could fly out any minute!

For the past week I have also felt a huge strain on the right hand side of my back, to the point where I have ended up in tears as it is starting to hurt so much. I tried muscle rub lastnight, but that has had no effect. MW told me last week that she didnt think I would last another fortnight, but a week has passed, and I still dont feel anywhere near labour!

Is there anything that I could be prescribed for the back pain? I am in agony, and not sure I could last another 2 weeks, as baby measured 40 weeks at my 36 week scan.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh you poor thing, I remember feeling much the same in my last pregnancy. I always felt like my baby was getting lower, there was lots of sharp buzzing pains on my cervix but I kept being told my baby was not engaged. None of mine have engaged until labour and some people engage really early so I don't think you can use it as a guide as to how long you have left. I don't think anyone will prescribe you anything for the back pain, I'm sure that other people might have some advice on massage or natural remedies but I'm afraid I can't help, lots of rest if possible. My helpful MW told me to have lots of rest and warm baths so I asked her if she was coming round to look after my other two children while I followed her advice!!!
I know it's hard, but it will all be over soon.. big hugs

Thanks honeybunmum

No more than half an hour after I wrote the post yesterday, I had a slight pink discharge which I hoped was the start of things. 24 hours later and still nothing!

I guess I just need to be patient!

Sounds like things are gearing up for. It won't be much longer now

Hope you have a happy birth experience!

Hi Chinchi
have you got a tens machine, I used that to great effect in the early stages. With first baby I kept having mild irregular pains and ve bad back but because pains weren't regular midwife told me (without examining) that I wasn't in labour. I was, baby was born 5 hours later. With number 2 I thought I had a tummy upset and I had sore rectal pain, only just managed to get to the hospital that time. Anyway when I used the tens it really helped with the ack pain.
