Anyone opted for a private room at the Radcliffe in Oxford? Or had DH stay 1st night in hospital?

Having a planned CS in March and tempted to have a private room the first night rather than splashing out on a winter weekend away before baby.
It's been quite a worrying PG and we're thinking it would be nice to make those 1st hours as nice as possible.
Anyone did it? Feedback please?

Also DH has got it in his head he'd really like to stay the first night too - I like the idea - just spoke to the private wing and they said it's more common if there's been complication but they may be able to try and accommodate for it anyway. Anyone did that?

Thanks. xx

Is it your first baby, Mandy? I had a very worrying pg with dd, and was convinced I'd want a private room, and to have DH stay. As it was we were all pretty tired, and DH went home about 10, and was back at 7. Your dh will be able to be with you for the first few hours anyway, and it felt pretty private to me - everyone's pretty much absorbed in their own new baby, so they don't pay much attention to anyone else!

Personally, I'd go for the winter weekend away - sounds nice, and the first hours with the baby are pretty fab anyway. Hope the rest of pg is a bit less worrying!

I gave birth (csec) up the road at HMU (part of JR trust) - policy seems to be that Cesc's need to be on ward for first 24hrs anyway.

TBH - I think you should make sure your DH goes home and gets some proper sleep anyway. you'll need him when you get home and at least one of you won't be tired. also, being on the ward you may just get to know another mum and exchange numbers etc. 1st birth - I was in side room, didn'talk to anyone and felt incradibly isolated. 3rd birth - have made lots of friends during stay at HMU.
