CS scar "oozing" 10 days after birth - I've cleaned it with cooled boiled water, should I do anything else?

is the hv, midwife coming round today?

Hi MamaG, I hope you're recovering ok - apart from the oozing of course!

How were you closed?

Do you think the oozing is infection type oozing? Or just a bit of oozing because you've opened up the incision a bit?

have you still got the clips in?

is there redness, heat, what sort of ooze is it? Is it smelly?

Nobody coming until Monday. I had to talk DS2 to the doctors yesterday and walked - prob about 40 mins in total, which is a lot at the moment! It doesn't hurt, its not smelly and its just a sort of slimy pinkish bit (nice) in the middle. Iwas closed up with staples (eek)

sounds like you did too much!! could you ring the midwife to come today to check it?
do not do too much, rest!!

I wouldn't walk too much or do anything that can put strain on the scar, and be careful with the clothes you are wearing. Contact your midwife or GP the first signs of any infection.

How are you apart from that? How is ds2?

Think I'll see how it goes - if it continues I'll ring the MW. Yes, I prob did too much. I'm feeling much strong now thanks, so I think I got a bit ambitious!

DS is thriving, he had his tongue tie snipped on Thursday and has been feeding much better since then, and going longer between feeds so I'm getting a lot more rest (and less painful feeding - right nork now doesn't hurt at all, still working on the left!)

Sounds like it has opened up a bit. Take it easy, carry on washing it with cool boiled water, and most importantly pat it dry.

You div! Did they not tell you that in hospital?

Remember, don't rub it dry, pat it dry and let it air dry before you get dressed.

I have to be honest a lot of the hospital stuff is a blur - I was out of it due to hte anaemia/general anaesthetic (how awful are GAs? I've never had one before - it was dreadful!)

I'm pleased that we're still feeding belgo - it is hard - my MW said that if it was my first baby I'd probably have given up by now and she's prob right - as he's my third I know its worth it in the end (and thank god for lansinoh!)

It wouldn't shock me if they didn't mention any aftercare. I know my local didn't.

Yes GA's are awful. I puked my guts up for hours afterwards, and I was only under for about 30 mins.

I had exactly this - it started weeping then opened up in patches - get your doc to do a swab to see if its infected - mine was, and it got worse not better until I had abs. They have to swab to find out what kind of abs you need. Mine is just clearing up now 2 weeks on.

Agree on GA - I remember nothing of the 12 hours post-CS.
