i had same experiance. i was 2 cm without knowing it a few days before due date. i think the leaking is something to do with the sweep you had ( i take it you had one) i aslo bled like mad. i went to the hospital but they said it was normal and sent me home. i started in labour about 5 hours later

Thanks I did not have a sweep ~ Just an internal check to see how things were if uterus neck was still closed. Discovered I was 2 cm so did a monitor and all was silent.

If you have already given birth, then you are always 1-2cm dilated. Your uterus neck doesn't close completely.

It sounds like your waters are leaking. Mine did for a while and then resealed themselves. When they went properly there was no doubt. Keep trying your GP and try not to panic just for now.

S of hands - thanks - I was my doc that visited and he said it could have been a 'passive' dilatation which would match what you said ( am translating literally). I keep getting massive urge to pee as well which is getting me confused.
Grandma arriving at 21.00 tonight to take care of dd1 am contemplating spending £150 to get her here 2 hrs earlier !!

I don't think you need to rush to hospital just yet, hopefully your doc will be back from lunch soon! The dilation doesn't necessarily mean anything either, I was 1-3cm dilated for the whole of my 3rd trimester in my 2nd pg!

(Not sure it's true what SOH said though as my cervix was closed at the beginning, I know that because, unlike in UK, they check your cervix on a regular basis here)

I was 1-2 cm dilated for a month before giving birth and a friend of mine was 4 cm for a month (second baby) with no contractions.

I would sit tight and wait. If you suddenly do feel that things are progressing you can always call and ambulance to take you and DD in.

How quick was first labour?

Rosa · 05/11/2008 14:02

With first Waters broke and all quiet for 13 hrs then from 1st contraction to delivery 2 hrs !!! - I was in hosp overnight so being monitored pretty much.
DH is here but he he will have to stay wth dd - Doc still not answering. Will try the hosp soon.

Wow, you may be in for a lightening delivery this time then. How far are you from the hospital?

Rosa · 05/11/2008 14:10

About 15 mins in a taxi plus call out time so about 30 mins. Not risking waterbus !!
