vaginal prolapse

I could so do without this..
Anyone out there had surgery for this? I have discovered I have anterior prolapse, and have been referred to a hospital gynae. The solution is surgery / stitches - has anyone had experience of this who can advise me? I'm terrified.

AAAAAAARRRGGGHHHHH, how awful for you!!! I thought I had a prolapse too, turns out not, but my bladder is falling down a bit (called a cystocele)- specialist doesn't want to address it yet, may get better on its own, but I have to have a vaginal resection to clean up the nasty horrid scar left from tearing when DS was born, and a polyp has formed in the scar - eeeewwwww... I feel for you!! I believe that depending on how bad your prolapse is they can do the surgery through your belly button. Let us know!!! Hugs to you!!

I had an anterior and a posterior prolapse and was told that surgery was the only option. However, I referred myself to specialist women's physio (hereafter known as the Fanjo Fixer, or FF for short ) and with a combination of proper pelvic floor exercises and losing a chunk of weight, I managed to get things more or less back into place. I stopped using my mooncup too, although I have started again recently to no ill effect.
I looked into the surgery option and it sounded so awful (with pretty crap success rates too) that I would have tried anything else first. I do know of women who've had the surgery, with varying degrees of success, but I'm told that if you plan to have any more children, it's probably best to have them before the surgery, if that's what you are going to choose.
I'd definitely seek advice from a FF first though.

A friend of mine had a stitch put in for prolapse and I believe it was all done laparoscopically. she recovered really well and can do all the things that she was struggling with like running and stuff. I suppose it depends how bad it is though.

She was advised to have any more children before the surgery as it can cause complications.

And after her initial consultations she was given exercises to help improve things and the surgery was only a last resort iyswim.

Thisismyfirst - Sorry to hear your trouble.
I don't have personal experience of this, but I do work within the medical arena and know a little bit about this procedure.
If you go down the surgical route..
I would look around for a surgeon who can perform this using minimally invasive techniques. The operation will be short, have a quick recovery and you shouldn't be in too much pain afterwards. The surgeon will probably use either TVT (trans vaginal tape) or IVS (intra-vaginal sling) to 'hoist' everything back up.

Not sure what the long term results are like probably best to chat to a few surgeons or do some searches on google for the afore mentioned ops.
