Preparation for Elective Section

Hi, just looking some reassurance and advice. I've been booked in for c-section upon medical advice. Had difficult first birth, baby's heartrate dropped ++ and needed ventouse etc

Do I need anything extra in hospital bag?
Can more than 1 birth partner be present?
Is it best to wax/shave bikini line?
How long afterwards til you can get up?

Sorry so many questions, found I was far less anxious before first labour/delivery.

Did you realise you started 2 threads?

I had a emergency cs and must admit they never did anything to my bikini line! As far as the bag goes, you need to be prepared for stayin in hospital for up to 5 days - so clothes/toiletries/nappies etc for longer than standard.

My dd was born at 9am. I was out of it for most of that day, catheter attached etc. The following morning I realised that sadly NOONE was going to bring me a cup of tea so I got up and took baby in wheely cot and catheter off to find tea and toast.

It was uncomfortable but do-able. Shortly after that they removed the catheter. Then my sister arrived and I went off for a blessed shower. I only stayed in for 3 days. I felt fine and baby was checked over and was fine too so we went home. I did feel "peculiar" for a week or so though - probably the painkillers they give you.

Hi there, I had elective 2nd time, it was a damn sight better than the 1st emergency one!
You will need enough stuff for up to 5 days, though you might be out in 3 (take a book/mag for boredom relief). Pray that the other women on your ward don't snore like a jet engine.
Usually you can only have one birth partner but I'd check with hospital beforehand.
Don't worry too much about bikini line - it's the bit across the top you might want to take down a few cm!
Don't go too mad when you get home, and don't try to do stomach exercises until your muscles have gone back together or they never will..........
Good luck! You'll be fine

Oh yeah! If you CAN get a private room, if one is available (we had to pay a small amount) it is definitely worth it! I had already spent 2 weeks on the ante natal ward so when I went in for induction was most keen on having my own room.....Worth every penny if you can manage it!
