Mw is doing home visit today to do s & s, i'm 41+1, if this works, great, if it doesn't, i had my hospital app yesterday and it was agreed i'd be induced sat with the gel (if that works)

so can anyone provide any helpful handy hints and tips about any part of this? dd was a 'standard' if you can use that term!) labour where i had an epidural and 2nd tear but nothing unusual other than that.

Baby is slightly engaged, however i'm not too concerned re this as dd was only partially engaged while i was in labour with her and my waters idn't break until quite far on in the labour!

Can anything help a s&s? Can anything help an induced labour?

also, any advice about rupturing mebranes being dne in hospital? i haven't had this mentioned by mw or hospital but reading some older threads i've noticed this can be a bit of a hot potato so i thought it might be useful to ask for any info too from you wise mumsnetters!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

If the baby isn't engaged, then rupturing your membranes might not be a good idea as the baby could come down in the wrong position, leading to a very long awkward labour.

My advice with an induction, is that you don't necessarily need an epidural. I was told with DS1 that it was too painful to be induced without an epidural, and had one immediately. I managed without one with DS2, and it enabled me to stay much more active and upright which I'm sure helped him come out (DS1 was an ec/s in the end).

Good luck

thanks fourarms.

mw just did sweep, said not dilated but cervix nice and soft, and uterus or cervix or an important bit upright or facing forward, not tilted back?

so, fingers crossed!

I am also 41+1 today. Had a sweep yesterday (2nd one). Had mild period pains but it died out and am feeling just fine this morning.
Am booked for induction on Monday 27th. Was induced with my 1st daughter 3 years ago. They give you a gel which brings period pains - not unbearable although I found it difficult to sleep. in the morning they broke my waters and for two hours after that I was having very strong contractions every minute or so. It is because your body gets a bit confused with the induction and since they had to induce me 3 weeks before the due date the body was simply not ready). I have asked for the epidural - and you know the rest - it really relieves the pain. Gave birth a day later to a beautiful girl who is that rocks my world waiting for another one at the moment - although I am now quite bored/irritated with waiting - if I need to be induced - am not really worried about it.
Dont worry - you can do it - it is not that bad at all good luck and fingers crossed for you.
