Home birth for oldies

Am I likely to be laughed at if I suggest that I'd like a homebirth at the grand old age of 43 ? (will be knocking 44 if I'm truthful.) I had number 2 at home but that was eons ago. Number 3 was meant to be a homie but went ages overdue and had to be induced.I haven't mentioned it to anyone yet and just wondered if anyone had any experience of homebirth in their 40s...

If everything else about your pregnancy is low risk I doubt it...One of my friends had a HB at 40 and I'm planning one at almost 40 so we're not that much younger than you.

Good luck

I hope not! It is your right to give birth in the setting of your choice although they will advise you of any risks involved for your personal circumstances.

I have a competition running to win a birthing pool: www.mamatobegoodies.co.uk/win-la-bassine-birthing-pool-essentials-kit/ please spread the word to homebirthers!

I am hoping for one with my 6th, and i will be (hopefully) 42.

I have had previous pg complications, and have been told can still plan for one and see how get on.

good luck

Have you come across Angela Horn's homebirth site? There's some info on there and a link to the homebirth UK yahoo group, which you might like to join.

From my experience and reading other women's, I doubt you'll be laughed at but you might see a few shrouds being waved through the air in your direction (I had enough of that and I was only 33). At the end of the day its your choice and they have to support you in that choice.

Good luck

My SIL just had a homebirth at 42, 3rd baby, first HB, all went fab. She had 2 straightforward births before and said it was lovely to snuggle in own bed with partner and new baby afterwards.

Had homebirth at 41, midwives didn't even blink. Went very well too. Good luck.

I had a homebirth at 46 - it was great. There was a fair bit of shroud waving beforehand - but I'd done a lot of research and felt confident it was a safe choice for me, and I'm so glad now I didn't allow the doctors to persuade me out of it.

Thanks for all the positive messages ladies. I will definitely look at the Angela Horn site. Well done Didoreth - makes me feel like a spring chicken! I feel confident enough now to mention it to the midwife when I see her tomorrow.
