It was bloody marvellous in my 36 hour labour with DS. Now preg again and want to get one. I borrowed the previous one from my cousin's friend and want to get my own one this time.

any tips much appreciated!

I bought OBI Tens from mothercare online, good price, easy to use and nice and small. would recommend it. i have given it to two people since.

Had the Elle Tens www.babycaretens.com/?gclid=CI--zfmetpYCFQ2Y1QodwH_zLg
much better than the cheapy version I hired from Boots for DC1.

I got a boots one off ebay - worked a treat.
previous owner had used it for 3 births too.

Do NOT get one from tens-hire.co.uk - mine had a faulty connection which we didn't detect when we set it up and tested it (both because the set up and test procedure was ridiculously complicated and because the faulty connection was only intermittent).

Anyway, after using it for several hours in early labour I realised it was having no effect and DH ran out to get another one and ended up with a Mama Tens from Tesco pharmacy, which turned out to be cheaper and really easy to use. Unfortunately it was too late to have any effect!!

I would try it again next time though...

I hired the Elle Tens recommended by NCT and it was great for early stages. Make sure its got a boost button! I was sceptical to begin with but it felt like a permanent back massage; wore it till I got in the pool at the hospital. One tip - make sure the power setting doesn't get knocked on the way to the hospital (now you'll tell us you're planning a home birth) - took me a while to work out why boost wasn't effective all of a sudden. Oh, and I shouldn't have sent it back so quickly either - might have been nice post-partum too.
