I know you ought to take them throughout labour and then afterwards to help with bruising, but does anyone know the dosages? remember hearing it's something like one an hour during labour then a certain number every day afterwards - any ideas?

Someone on our thread posted dosage as advised by person in H&B iirc.

I have the 30c ones, and took 2 a day for a week (or more, as it turned out) before labour, then a couple of tablets every few hours on labour day, and then 2-4 a day since.

ajm200 · 13/10/2008 14:14

I think it is a couple a day until after the baby is born then 2 every couple of hours for the first 6 doses then 2 every 6 hours for 5 days.

The prelabour bit was advice from my mw last time, the rest I read off the side of the pack that I have.

Take as much and as often as you want.

They are sugar pills. It's not as if you can overdose on them.

Honeymoonmummy · 13/10/2008 18:04

I didnt realise you should take them before labour? When did everyone start them?

ajm200 · 13/10/2008 18:48

I was told to start around 38 weeks that way baby gets the benefit too..

200c are better if you can get them!

Minniethemoocher · 14/10/2008 21:58

www.helios.co.uk stock 200c Arnica. They do a childbirth kit and are very knowledgable and helpful

Pannacotta · 14/10/2008 22:04

200c, I have some left over you can have it you like (they last for years apparently, mime are from 2007)?

Lotster · 16/10/2008 11:01

Helios kits are good.

I would always give Ainsworths a call as they're real officionados as to dosages and appropriate homeopathy for you.

Arnica is an anti inflammatory agent for blood vessels, especially veins, so helps to bring out and speed healing of, bruising.

Anyone taking high blood pressure medications or blood-thinning medications should tell their doctor they are planning to take it as it can increase risk of bleeding in those people. People taking medicines that affect the heart?s rhythm or function may have worse effects if they take arnica as well.

Personally, I took it every two hours throughout labour and then for two weeks afterwards. I also take it for two days before operations and for a week or two afterwards.

Good luck!
