40 weeks pregnant - how near do you keep DH?

I'm 40 weeks pg with no 2. DH has a season ticket for Spurs and they have a game on saturday. Should he go? The journey home when he leaves at the same time as everyone else takes about 1 hour but the journey home if he got called away before the end would probably take about 30/40 minutes.

I'm having a water birth at home but I know how to fill the pool so no problems there.

What do wise mumsnetters think?

How long did your first birth take? Is there someone else you can call on in emergency?

personally i'd shackle him to the birthing pool. who would drive you to hospital if you needed help quickly? and who are you going to shout at if the labour happens quickly?

At 36 weeks dh went to Norway. That was on the thursady. I went in for a check up and they found out I had pre-eclampsia. As he is in the RAF we have no family support local, so they had to bring him home to look after dd!

first one took a while. At home it was going very well but as soon as I got to the hospital it all stopped, hence the home birth this time. I do have family nearby, it won't be a problem getting help if DH is unavailable.

Let him go to the football! After all, it might be the last time for quite a while and I'm sure he will appreciate it, even if he does need to be called away.

I think he should go too.

as a non-pregnant person I would say let him go, I would probably feel very differently if it were me heavily pregnant though.

I think he should go. If anything it will almost guarantee that you go into labour at 3pm on Saturday.

I would see how you feel on Saturday and make a decision then. Presumably he could be at work or at the shops when the moment arrives anyway, but if you feel happier that he is with you rather than at the match - I think your needs take priority! Best of luck with the birth!!!!!

an hour away is fine imo but I wouldn't let him go much further! My second took 4 hours 'officially' but I reckon 8 hours unofficially from twinge to babe. Depends on how quick your first was too. I also think he should OFFER not to go though!

Hi ive had my dd she is 13 weeks and when i was 40+3 dh went away for a traning weekend with the RAF he was about an hour away he went friday evening and came back sunday evining about eight we were lucky as about 10 that evening i started having contrations and early hours tuesday morning she was here

forgot to say she is my first we had more time as you know first are usually abit longer start to finish!

My DH works 2 hours away from home - so obviously he was still going to work when I was heavily pregnant/overdue.

I personally would let him go - an hour isn't too far away.
