A question about induction

Hi I am pg with dc2. Labour with DC1 was very bad and I needed help getting her out. She was a week early but still weighed a hefty 8lb4. I am really worried that I may go overdue this time (not due till Feb but have been having bad dreams about it) and dont think my body could cope with a bigger baby.

Can you ask to be induced on your due date or is this a big no no and could it cause complications if baby wasn't ready?. I am seeing my midwife next week and was wondering if it was worth bringing this up?

I was induced with my 3rd on my due date due to my horrific depression, SPD, previous large baby (10lb 6oz) etc etc etc

Out of 4 inductions it was the worst and nearly failed, the other times when I waited until I was at least 14 days overdue were much much faster and less traumatic.

Dont think my body was ready with ds as had induction when I was 12 days overdue, ended up with an emergency CS after 2 pessary's failed to work. Speak to your midwife or doctor as they will be able to give best advice imo. Oh and good luck

I have to say I know lots of Mums who've had more than on dc and it is very very few indeed who've had more problems with their second delivery than their first.

If your first was a girl and early it's quite likely that your 3nd will put in an appearance before the due date anyway.

Also it's the head that tends to get stuck and that doesn't alter much with overall body weight IYSWIM.

Perhaps what you would most benefit from is someone debriefing you on your first birth, going through the notes and letting you talk through what happened and why.

Thanks for this, I am probably being silly I know but dd's birth was so traumatic and we nearly lost her as she got stuck! (her heart rate dropped dramatically and didn?t come back up). I think it was all to do with her positioning (back to back) rather than her weight anyway you are right?

I don?t want to risk making things worse so will let nature take it cause then in light of bad stories.

It really is worth getting someone to go through your notes properly with you to see what could/should have been done properly - were you labouring on your back, rather than on your knees/upright? We're you just too tired to push etc etc

This is the sort of thing to look at, it sounds like you need to do that process because you are having bad dreams about it.
