Has anyone not been stitched up properly after giving birth?

Ds2 was born over two years ago. At the time they didn't stitch me up and then afterwards said the tear was worse than they had first thought.
It's awful because I can't have a bath without water being sucked up, among other problems I have with it.
Anyone with experience of this?

Lots of us, you're not alone.
Who was it who dealt with the tear at the time? Have you ever seen a specialist? In my experience GPs can be completely useless with this kind of thing, and it's worth seeing a gynae to check out whether a repair is possible.
MN has been very helpful to me in getting support, by the way. As well as having to deal with the physical problems, it's very emotional as well isn't it?

Yes, and it also still feels quite achey. It's horrible, would my gp refer me to a gynae?
Have you been to a specialist MTM?

Your GP should definitely refer you if you're still having problems this far on. I've seen two gynaes - the first was awful, so I pushed to see a second, who was much better.

I had mine repaired and a tape to prop up my bladder and stop stress incontinence about 3 months ago - feel fab now - had it done in Blackheath Hospital and my surgeon was super - he even saw a friend of mine as a favour the other day as she has had such a bad time and didn't charge her! He works on the NHS though out of Woolwich.

All symtoms gone:

Peeing myself when moved (well alughed, coughed or did any exercise!)
Not feeling much during sex without lots of unnecessary grinding so outside bits were stimulated because nothing else was being on account of it being like a bucket(STMI/IYKWIM)
Constipation
Sucking up half of bath when getting out and depositing it all around the bathroom and bedroom.

Now I am a new woman witht he vagina of a 17 year old apparently - asked DH of that was true but he said he hasn't ever had sex with a 17 year old so wouldn't know!! I have assured him that is what it would feel like and he is very happy!

That sounds fabulous Twinkie, and I recongnise all of those symptoms. I haven't got CAT but I live in Wiltshire. Was yours done on the NHS then or did you go private? Do you know how much it costs?

Think it can cost about £6k privately but you can asked to be referred to whereever you want apparently.

He was so worth it - thourough and so easy to talk to - you have to make sure you get a good surgeon - my friend is having to have hers done again after having an unnecessary hysterctomy!

Mine was private - DHs insurance paid.

Ok, will speak to dh about taking out pirvate medical insurance I think.

She was very pleased with results.

Hi Rach, think I might have to go back to work to save up for it. I've requested a brochure from harley st clinic, but Bath clinic would be better, as it's nearer.

Was stitched up a treat in Bath ruh with ds1, but ds2 was born in trowbridge and they just said 'yeah, that looks fine to me, next!'

Made an error earlier by going to the docs to try and make an appointment. There was nobody at the desk so I thought I'd book a smear at the same time. So I said really quietly 'can i book a smear test please' and the woman just went 'you have to be mid cycle' and then just stared at me. So I said 'riiight, well, if you tell me some dates then I can tell you if they're ok'
She said 'first one we've got is september 3rd' but that was a no no so i said 'have you got any more dates?' 'No, that's it' she said.

i suck up half the bath too, i did have tear after ds1 and 2. everything else seems fine though, i never quite understood the bath thing till now, should i see doc?

I'm going to make an appointment next week and see if they refer me. The problems that come with 'sucking up the water' for me are quite physical. I'm quite prone to water infections etc. My tear goes quite far back as well iyswim.
I don't think we should have to put up with it just because we have given birth. I really wished the bloody midwife had noticed how bad the tear was at the time.
Anyway, am looking forward to someday having the 'vagina of a 17 year old' as twinkie put it.

DH tells me that I had 1 stitch too many.

My youngest is 9 and the scar is the first thing to let me know when a period is due and aches so much when period is in full swing.

I k new someone that this happneed to. She was taken into hospital and 'redone'. Very soon after the birth.

I don't know why they didn't refer me at the time because when I went to be checked over a few days later, two of the buggers came in and had a look.

According to my gynae, they are reluctant to refer before 6 months because a lot of women don't heal well initially but after time (and finishing breastfeeding) things will settle down to normal. So for the NHS it would be a waste of money. Unfortunately, for those of us who do have long-term problems, some of the less invasive things that they can do to help the healing process (like ultrasound treatment) need to be done early to have any real effect.

This aching feeling I've been experiencing is my scar???? It feels all achey and heavy and nasty?

Why do we suck up half the bath? Where does the water go and why? Does it mean my fanjo is stupidly wide? Will DP have noticed?

my stitches also went upwards and were apparently like a 'jigsaw' to stitch back together. Apparently all of the pieces didn't fit as nearly 2 years after the birth of ds1 I still have a fair sized hole in my labia! lovely! It is just a cosmetic issue and the stitches were too bad to go through again.

OMG the things we have to go through...i had an episiotomy and couldn't sit down for five weeks...i just had my first bath last week (don't worry i did shower) and my bottom/front bottom felt exactly like a suction cup on the floor of the bath...what the h*ll is that? I am too scared to look at the damage to be honest with you...glad it can get fixed though as i too am having problems with my bladder...i said to DH 'will you still love if i smell like wee?'...but it isn't funny really is it? It has killed any notion of a sex life still i am only five weeks post natal....
