i have been in and out of hospital since 16/7 (for 9 days then discharged)with irregular contractions, i was last in on the 1st, as really thought, right this is it, but it all stopped again, in my notes it sayd my cervix is shortening and i am 1/5 palpable, so does that mean baby is right down there, and how long do you think it could be from now?

Sorry, but the answer is how long is a piece of string.

But just incase make sure your labour bag is packed and the nursery is ready.

Is it your first or second baby? I know second babies (or more) can pop in and out quite easily - mine does. Also I think first babies can engage quite routinely from 36 weeks (or sooner) and stay there. Unfortunately its not linked to them coming sooner. With DS he didnt engage at all and came at 39 weeks yet friends were engaged much sooner and went overdue.

Really sorry I cant give you a better answer!
