It's for my friend, she's overdue and desperate to know if anything is likely to happen.

Do you know what a ripe cervix should feel like?

soft, like a pursed mouth, rather than firm like the tip of your nose, it should be towards the front and you might be able to insert a clean and short nailed fingertip inside

unless she has been checking her cervix frequently though she has nothing to compare against.

be very careful when fiddling, short nails and clean hands, squatting down might be easier than reaching past the bump
