Want to demand politely book in for a Home Birth today.
Any tips to be more assertive without getting upset in case I get fobbed off like last time.
Feel quite confident but I know what Im like when confronted. Sometimes tend to just go along with things

"My fanjo, my baby, my choice" x repeat

I'm rubbish at confrontation too - just wanted to wish you luck!

  1. WRITE DOWN (sorry) everything you want to say.
  2. Tip to feel more assertive when talking to someone:- stand up when talking. This works when speaking on the phone too.

Use broken record technique:

"I'd like to book in for a home birth please"
MW - puts up an objection
"Yes, I have considered that. I'd still like a home-birth
MW - puts up another objection
"I do hear what you're saying, but I'd like to book in for a home-birth"

continue as necessary!

Good luck!

You just need state that you want a homebirth.

Even if the midwife raises objections, you still have the right to a homebirth.

If you have any hassle just ask for an appointment to meet the Supervisor of Midwives. She will ensure your choices are supported.

thankyou all for your advice.
Just got back and she was great. Obviously need to get to 37 weeks etc..
But was very positive and said they have just had meetings regarding home water birth as someone else has booked one for end of september. I due end of August.
She said 'ooh how exciting you will be our first'

Not sure if that fills me with dread or not Im just so pleased they agreed to it.

She asked me how will I keep temp of water as that was there only concern really as too cold and baby could gasp.
She also said it will feel strange to them as obviously they wont be an as much control as they normally would be/like to be, especially as they dont catch the baby I do.

Also measuring 37 at 34 weeks.(Is this anything to be concerned about) She didnt seem concerned just said it will probably be another big baby.
